There is a band of mycelium forming at the bottom of the substrate.
It appears to be doing the "grow-up" style with no aid.

Spent tea is extremely good at germinating spores.

Here is the spent WL-Tek sample expanded to WL-Tek as spawn, then expanded to WL-Tek with 10g added tea waste.
Everything was assembled open air, no clean procedures except the containers, no grain products.

I am using the grow-up style for uniform growth, spawn at the bottom.

Any competitors are either destroyed or inhibited.

Here are two alternatives to the MG brand of plant food. What is important is the listed nutrients, and solubility.
Westland: Grow-Sure, Bayer Garden: Phostrogen. Cheaper store brands may also work.

Use any brand, or mixture of brands that suit your requirements.

I need to replenish my stock of paper pellets soon and will be adding a bag of mixed wood pellets.
Both are used on pets, the wood pellets as cat litter, the paper pellets as pet bedding.

The wood should be lime bathed, like straw, pasteurized and left to cool.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is KO on 50/50 paper-wood enriched, WL-Tek, no grain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be doing some further testing on this experiment.

Bob Martin Wood Based Cat Litter Pellets, 10 Liters.
Back 2 Nature Small Animal Bedding, 30 Liters.
Breeder Celect Cat Litter, 30 Liters.

Here is the Tarragon from spent substrate > WL-Tek, about 50% in 7 days.

Open air assembly, no infection, 100% clean surface.

Conclusion: Paper pellets work and replace vermiculite, where both materials and fluids are absorbed.
The pellets also count as an energy source and complete the substrate in terms of fiber.

The paper pellets hold an ample water supply, ~80%, thats 100g + 375g.
A simple BRF approach is all that is needed, pH is approx 7-8.

This allows some materials to be added without lime.

Here is a sample of Tarragon oyster on the updated WL-Tek, I added:

1 x Level teaspoon of any wholegrain brown flour.
1 x Black tea bag, bag removed, as dry powder.

12 hour response, using the grow-up style.

I recently cased a new grow of Tarragon oyster, using paper pellets and just water. Mashed then fluffed up and microwaved for 8 minutes.
Left for 2 hours, then fluffed up again, and left for another 2 hours. I am doing 80% water content, and about 10mm in depth.

It's a bit smelly, but works well. I cannot smell mycelium, only paper. Insects go strait for my water bath.

In my current setup, I am top fruiting the Tarragon, with an outer container filled with water.
There is a bag around the outer container to build a 80mm wall, to maintain RH.

Here is some assembly images of my WL-Tek, I am adding two unused tea bags to reduce the pH of my water to 7.
The tea will also add some variation, the last two images are before microwaving and after cooling.

Exactly 6 hours ago, I put King oyster WBS spawn to my current batch.
I have some growth, although small, a new personal record.

Most of it will grow properly after 18-24 hours.

My paper pellets as a casing is working perfectly, unmodified added just water. House humidity is usually 40%.
However it has been raining recently and it's currently 50%, no drying out, no damage, no contams.

Outer container with water, a rolled over bag, and misting only 2 times a day.

Really interesting stuff mate. Thanks for all the data and keep up with the good work! How do you compare spent tea to coffee grounds?

Have not tried that, there's starch in coffee and none in tea, so I will need to tinker a bit.
Last time I tried adding coffee to WL-Tek I got mold @ 4 teaspoons, no pH changes.

Here is my experimental fruiting setup, using plain paper pellets as a casing.
Interestingly Tarragon oyster is more summer than Summer oyster.

I have also changed the water, and cleaned the container.
Still no drying out, no damage, no contamination.

Here is my wild clone of Summer oyster to WL-Tek after only 1 day 18 hours.
Very thick strong growth, no starch, no sugar, cellulose as energy.
