Defat problems

I've recently started an extraction of ACRB, I had left the rootbark sitting in vinegar for about a week before pulling the vinegar off and replacing it with new vinegar. I did this three times and collected the vinegar, I then tried to defat the solution by adding naptha but it doesn't seem like the naptha is picking up any fat at all. Am I doing something wrong? How can I tell if it's working?

Acacia Confusa Root Bark. I was told that it has significantly more fats then Mimosa, and so it requires a defat but my naptha doesn't seem to be pulling any fats from the solution.

did you just use vinegar or did you add vinegar to water to create your acid bath? your extraction sound kinda strange to me. Just go a head and with what ever tek you're using. I usually do a STB and a mini A/B after to remove all the fats. What Tek are you using BTW?

I wasn't actually using a specific tek this time, I just followed a simplified list of instructions which somebody had recommended. Instead of simmering the rootbark in water and vinegar I was told to add straight 5% white vinegar to the rootbark and leave it for about a week.
I had actually initially considered just doing an STB and then cleaning it up (I'm really trying to avoid the simmering step, if possible). Does this method usually work well for you? Are there any tips you could give me?

yeah simmering sucks, very time consuming. I'd just go head with what your extraction. I you get goo just go back and clean it up. But yeah for future. Stb then a/b after works great.

If you extract with acidic water you're not going to get much fats so no need to defat. If you use basic water then it will attract fats. The advantage of the stb is that you don't have to filter off your aqueous, you just extract directly from the mix, and I would imagine a basic solution is faster at pulling out alkaloids than an acidic one. The advantage of an acidic one is obviously no need to defat and if using a sep funnel or something, well, you can use one to better seperate your organic layer.
