Disturbing Movies

What's the most fucked up movie you've ever seen?  The type of movie that sits with you for awhile.

For me I would say...

Bully (2001)
The Human Centipede
Requiem For a Dream
Henry:  Portrait Of A Serial Killer

I hear Gummo is super fucked up...I might watch that one next.

Eraserhead

It's more of a "what the goddamn fuck am I watching" type of movie.

I've heard about Gummo being a pretty fucked up movie too.

Kids (or Kidz?) is another fucked up movie that comes to mind.  It's the type of film that makes you hate the world more.

Kids is by the same director as Gummo.  I didn't think either film was particularly disturbing; Gummo was just weird (I guess in the same vein as Eraserhead), and Kids was just a bunch of young people making some bad choices (but choices nonetheless- it's hard for me to be disturbed by something someone does to themselves).

To me, the disturbing movies tend to be the very heart wrenching ones that manipulate your emotions and leave you feeling gutted or empty inside at the end.  'Dancer in the Dark' is a movie that leaves me feeling emotionally drained.

The Serbian film is brutal.

Pink Flamingos. I can barely watch this movie, less about it's content and more about the
way it's filmed

I once rented "Hansel and Gredel" from the Redbox thinking it was the remake with that assasian actor from The Avengers. I was very wrong.

Turned out to be a VERY fucked up movie.

I couldnt watch it half way, cause it got too fucked up.

Another milder one was Momento, which i really enjoy as a piece of art.

The Cube series were pretty fucked as well as the off-teh-wall Wrong Turn series. Definitely twisted and sick.

Yeah these 2 films always seem to pop up when this topic comes up. Never seen either.

Irréversible is a Gasper Noe film, correct?

Speaking of, Enter the Void may be not in the same league as the two films mentioned above -- in fact maybe it's not even close, but I still found it to be one of the more dark & disturbing films I've ever seen.

Mind you I saw it on a heavy, heavy dose of mushrooms. But damn, the death scene early on in that bar/club bathroom, the extremely graphic car wreck scene where their parents get obliterated (that they felt the need to show not just once, but twice), and the heavy, heavy incest insinuations...as trippy and mesmerizing as that film is, it's still really a horrible movie (to me anyway) to see through the lens of a psychedelic trip. I mean I came out of that shit feeling sick. And really, really depressed.

So yeah. Enter the Void would get a vote from me.

I would add:

If shows count Elfen Lied would be it for me...

I read about how it was one of the most fucked up anime ever made as a kid and stupidly decided to watch it with a friend. Really gruesome and dark, I don't remember much of it anymore thankfully but it definitely tramutized me.

I don't watch much dark stuff these days so I can't even think of a movie.

Actually VHS 2 might be it for me. Watched it with my ex who was into darker movies like that,  super unnecessarily violent and disturbing. I have repressed most memories of it as well but I remember being very appalled at all the violence...

I remember there being some gruesome animal death scenes like dogs being torn apart as well as some sexual child abuse or something

It has been years but I remember it being pretty damn dark. The atmosphere might be light throughout much of the show to contrast all the gruesome stuff if I remember correctly though.

Tokyo Ghoul is a pretty gruesome zombie anime of sorts, that one got really dark towards the end with some brutal torture scenes I believe. Never watched part 2 :tongue2:

I had to google that one because I thought I'd seen it.  I haven't, I've seen a movie called The Bad Neighbor that came out in the same year and has a very similar plot.  Guy becomes obsessed with finding out what's going on in his creepy neighbor's basement.  The one I saw had a decent ending, I'd give it a 4/7 stars.

I saw that in the theater too!  One of the girls I went with was a noob pot smoker (we were all like 16) and she had a panic attack because of the weed + movie combo, lol.  I still like Event Horizon, despite how severely dated it is now.

The Berserk movies manga and anime are all very disturbing.

Lots of gruesome deaths both humans and demons,  lots of humans though as its a dark medieval fantasy.

It is about a mercenary names guts who has a very brutal upbringing that turns him into a cold hearted killing machine. What makes it worth watching/ reading for me is the demons and occult stuff. They are done very very well.

For example the main villains are known as God Hands and are basically humans who renounced their humanity and through a mass sacrifice were reborn as powerful demons. They exist in a parallel plane of reality but can cross over to our world to manipulate humans and convert followers known as apostles.

The demon art is so intense,  really dark and terrifying. Here are some examples:

I hope I can make it past all the gruesome stuff to find out where the plot goes...

There is also a fair amount of rape and dark sexual stuff... Nobleman who are pedo's, pillaging/ raping bandits/ mercenaries/ armies...

Thankfully there is at least some comic relief to balance out all the disturbing stuff. It still is a pretty intense/ brutal series though.

It is still coming out too and there are like 300+ volumes to the manga, I am 6 or 7 volumes in and it is already gotten very very intense

Normally dark stuff like this isn't my cup of tea but it is actually a really deep series about the best and worst sides of humanity...

Yeah I hope I don't have some fucked up nightmares from reading Berserk

I don't really have bad dreams these days at least that I remember but I have a feeling before I finish the series I will probably have some sketchy ones

The plot is so intense and enthralling I am going to try and push through though! It is surprisingly philosophical for how violent and dark it is.

Not for the faint of heart though... By far one of the goriest things I have seen in quite some time and I am just reading the manga! I bet the movies are gruesome :uhoh:

I watched Requiem for a Dream recently and i dont think it was so much fucked up.. as it was depressing.

The most fucked up movie i can think of right now would probably be Altered States. That movie was beyond freaky..

Begotten. It's some kind of artsy/indie film from the early 90's. I came across it somehow as a child and I haven't been able to forget it since.

Last night I made it through "the festival/ the feast" part of berserk... It is by far one of the most gruesome and grizzly parts of anything I have witnessed...

Here is a bit of spoiler:

One of the main characters sacrifices all his friends to demons to be reborn as a "higher being" or demon king of sorts. He goes into a cocoon to be reborn while the army he led gets torn to pieces by demons... Then once he is reborn he proceeds to rape his female captain/ love interest in front of the armies raid leader while a demon chews off his hand... So he cuts off his hand with his broken sword only to be pinned down by demons. Amazingly enough they are both saved at the last minute from being sacrificed. Both have been branded with a sacrificial symbol though that attracts demons.

Damn that was some intense stuff to read through at like 4am! It was worth it though becouse Guts (the raid leader) now has some serious motivation to go kill every demon he can find. In fact he "declares war" against them, can't wait to see where things go from here... They introduced some really interesting plot elements for how violent things got...

For those into gruesome stuff here are some choice pics from the scene I just described:

Those are far from the darkest images but they are some of the more intense ones I could find...

Thankfully right after this chapter they brought the elf back which really lightens things up a ton...

Where can you watch them?

I made it through about the first 50 mins of Salo, Or The 120 Days Of Sodom.

Not that it was too much to handle, it just got a little old after awhile.  Definitely super fucked up though!!!  I would still have to give the nod to Henry:  Portrait of a Serial Killer as the most disturbing movie I've seen so far - because it feels so real.

As to where you can watch them, people can rip 99.9% of movies ever made from sites like Pirate Bay.  You just need to use the program uTorrent and you MUST MUST MUST hide your ip address, otherwise, you'll have the movie studios crawling up your ass.

A decent movie that is a real fucker to watch high as balls on acid is Videodrome. It really burrows into your brain in a way that you maybe almost shouldn't be alone. It's pretty dark and disturbing sober on it's own. Cronenberg has some good shit.

Last semester I had an extremely hard film analysis class with nothing but very disturbing awful movies .  I can give examples but everyone hated them, mostly post apocalyptic, all sad, no happy endings, fair amount of rape and murder , child-abuse . To top it off it was always extremely confusing story lines with anti-climactic climaxes and ambiguous artsy fartsy shit endings .  To top it off I had to analyze all these films and right in detail about them every week, analyzing rape scenes and murder scenes. I wasn't super offended by it but there was 1 million better movies with more positive attitude she could've shown.  Talk to fellow classmates about it and they thought the same thing .
