I guess that I didn't even realize this was the case until your post popped up. I'm just really self critical.
When I'm out hiking I have internal dialog conversations, but I don't know if that rightfully counts as talking to myself.
http://www.additudemag.com/adhdblogs/7/7263.html
Here are some examples of healthy self-talk I use, when I'm trying to stay on top of a project or important task, while avoiding distractions and procrastinating:
• Achieving my goal is just three steps away. I can do this! • Ignore the computer. It's a trap! • Is this really what I want to be doing? • I’ll feel much better after this project is done. • What can I do differently next time?
Here are some statements you’d be better served to put a lid on:
• I am so stupid! • Why can’t I do anything right? • Nothing ever goes my way. • Why am I so irresponsible? • Why do I always make things so difficult?
How does each set of words make you feel? Those mean statements just make me feel bad, like there’s no point in trying. They shut me down. By contrast, I feel much better when I nurture myself. Those words give me a sense of hope.
Self-talk is powerful. The choice is yours whether you use it to your advantage or your detriment. As Don Miguel Ruiz said in his book The Four Agreements, be impeccable with your word. Don’t use it against yourself. You’ll be much happier if you always make it a point to treat yourself with respect and kindness.
What do you say when you talk to yourself? Are you telling yourself the same things your mother used to? Are you being your own ally, or your own enemy?

i call myself "retard" or something like that many times a day as i make mistakes or procrastinate too much. I dont say it out loud all the time but i shout it in my mind at myself like "YOU FUCKING RETARD!!!!!! GET UP AND DO SOMETHING YOU LAZY BITCH" it usually works in getting me back on track for a productive day.
i think if i went off on someone the way i do to myself they might cry, but then id console them by telling them i just called myself the same thing before in a way more mean tone

I think it'd actually be alot more hurtful to hear those things said aloud to u by another person..
I usually put myself down when i realize im being greedy, selfish, or like lazy..
Ill say things like "u greedy bastard!" or "u fucking selfish asshole scumbag!"..
Or if im feeling too confident ill be like "u are nothing!, u worthless piece of shit!"..
gotta check urself before u reck urself..

Constantly, it is actually proven to be very helpful in helping one to solve/figure out problems at hand, especially when one is alone,it is also believed to be a trait associated with gifted/elevated intellects.
