I've also heard that and do believe it helps. Helps me anyways, when I'm building something or working on something I will talk to myself about what I'm doing and got to do. It seems to help me remember things better.

I think, and yeah that's talking to yourself I guess, but I don't speak out loud. Sometimes I sing, or beatbox/rap a lot for no reason, or if someone reads something to me and I have to remember it I say it out loud until I am able to write it down, or I drum on everything a lot, but I don't speak to myself.
99% of the time my mind is full of music, not words, but music.

I do sometimes. I dont think its something that you either dont do at all or have a habit of doing. I think most people do it once in a while especially on drugs like weed psyches. Some may do it more than others and some people may do it once in a blue moon but i think its really common. And now that I think of it you are right about caffeine too ive never really thought about it before.
Its funny that you make a thread about that now because I used to talk to my cat all the time but she got sick and had to be put down in late december and ive noticed that ive talked to myself quite a few times in the last couple weeks.

I talk to myself when I'm gone off a high dose of shrooms. The rest of the time I just keep it in my head.

I do when I get really stressed out, but I find people like to eavesdrop on my internal monologue when I say it out loud.
When I am really out of it in the morning I will cuss and say encouraging things like "you'll get through this", "it's ok"
When I am working on a technical problem I will do a similar thing, and cuss/talk through it if there's nobody around.

Talking outloud is basically a form of therapy. Just like talking about a horrible past experience to someone else, or just outloud, hearing yourself speak about an issue or problem helps us deal with the emotions and Logic of that issue.

I talk shit to myself mostly.
"Nice job jackass." "Way to go moron." "Good work there shithead." Always sarcastic.
I guess that I didn't even realize this was the case until your post popped up. I'm just really self critical.
When I'm out hiking I have internal dialog conversations, but I don't know if that rightfully counts as talking to myself.

Internal dialog doesnt count in my opinion. Since we all have internal dialog without talking outloud.

That's horrible. You should tell yourself to shut the fuck up and ask him what he's done with his life other than criticize you.

I was actually looking into this the other day and found out as long as you are not doing it in a negative way (like calling yourself stupid) it is actually healthy and productive.

I will when I am doing fast paced problem solving. I find thinking outloud can help with mental organization.
