Impulse Sealer AIE-300 tips
    #24024828 - 01/20/17 08:57 AM (4 years, 10 months ago)

I just tried out the AIE-300 for the first time.

http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/packaging/bags/bag-sealer/bag-sealer-hand-operated-12?infoParam.campaignId=T9F&gclid=CM3qg7fu0NECFdaCswodJAACZg

Had a bit of trouble sealing a "test bag".  Which was a large gusseted spawn bag.
The gusseted sides were not sealing even when the timer knob was set to 6 and i held down firmly for 4-5 seconds.  After a few more attempts i finally got the bag to seal.

Any tips and suggestions before i start sealing freshly PC'd bags?

thanks!

Cheap impulse sealers have low wattage and don't get hot enough to seal in a single press.  If you look at the specs it says  max thickness 6 mil.  A gusseted bag is 4 layers which could be 8-12 mil thickness depending on the bag.  You can either activate the sealer 3, 4... 5 or 6 times in rapid succession or try opening the gusset up at the top so you are only sealing 2 layers across the whole width.. Even with opening the gusset up though it might take multiple presses of sealer.

I am getting a solid closed seal in the middle of the bag. So opening up the gusseted bags might have to be the process for this sealer.

Or i'll try activating the sealer a few times and see what the seal looks like over the gusseted sides.

looking like the 800w 5mm would have been a better purchase :frown:

thanks Tony

Took me a while to figure this out (about a year!) this is for bags with some condensation on and 4 layers of gusset.

Turn sealer time down to about 50% of a good seal.

Seal once, hold down for 4 count after timer has gone off

Lift off and seal again -without moving the bag, again hold for 4 count.

I get 98% hit rate with this method , vs 30-40% with a single seal.

I have the aie300him. I have no issues with sealikg bags first try. The main thing is the sealer needs to be on its own circuit, and preferably a 20a circuit where the gauge of the wire is thicker, especially for long runs.

I will give this a try.

I should determine what else besides the ceiling light is drawing from that circuit.
The electrical grid in my old apartment can be spotty.

IF you have any 20 amp outlets in your house use that, typically bathrooms and kitchens have 20A circuits, they can be identified by one of the socket holes being a T

The T slot only indicates a 20 amp rated outlet.  Standard 3 prong outlets rated for 15amps are frequently put on 20 amp circuits.  An impulse sealer at 500 watts is only pulling about 4 amps which is way less than either circuit and should not be an issue for even a true 15 amp 14/2 circuit.

I would be more curious as to why the specs say 500 in the link by OP but the plate in the photo says 380 watts.  My 16" Midwest Pacific has 680 watts and can seal all 4 layers of a 3 mil gusseted bag with the dial set on 6-6.5 out of 8 in one shot.

Sorry, i was mistaken i have a AIE305-HIM 850w, and having the 5MM seal makes all the difference. And i can tell you from sealing over 2000 bags, it makes a huge difference if its on a good 20A circuit and with at least a 12ga extension cord if needed. You will only find the outlets with the T on a 20A circuit, its the easiest way for a layman to identify a 20A circuit...

Huh?  you think "American International Electric" means american made?  LOL.  I have a $400 double jaw foot sealer from them.  Pretty much all the switches on it have broken and the paint is peeling after 2 years.  I had to re-do some of the wiring to bypass the power switches.  Other than that it works like a champ.  Have not had to replace the elements, or buy more teflon tape.  It comes with about a foot of teflon tape that unrolls as needed.

The only true way to identify the circuit is track it into the box and see if it is 12 gauge wire on a 20 amp breaker. Just looking at an outlet really is not an indicator. Then make sure there isn't anything else drawing amps from same circuit.

Looks like i'll have to do a 3-4 seals in quick 1 second successions.  That has been working so far.

but aren't voltage and watts different?  So if my impulse sealer is 500 volts and 380 watts then it is draws 1.3amps?

Ohms law...
I=V/R

Also...
W=VI

Sooo...
380 Watts = 500 Volts * I Amps

380 / 500 = 0.76 Amps

Sorry for the double post... I should check links first...

This runs on mains, so 110V.  380/110 = 3.45 Amps

I think this is right... Or I had a few drinks and I'm forgetting something.

I always lubricate my teflon with a bit of silicon oil.
Use too much and it won't seal, but when applied properly you're teflon will last a lot longer and plastic won't stick to it messing up the seal.

Also, always order sealers with spare elements and Teflon, i tape the spares bag to the bottom of the sealer so i never lose em.

Has anyone tried the ULINE sealers? They come at pretty high wattages for good prices, and you can buy replacement parts as well. seems pretty legit

I have a Uline. Seal is thin though, makes it difficult when wet, dirty, or multiple layers.

it's all about maintance and care.
buying good quality is important but eventually, even quality suffers from wear and tear.
