hey guys, I'm not sure what I'm dealing with here. I've exhausted all other resources before resorting to posting this thread. All help is very much appreciated.

Looks like colonies of something, bacteria or possibly yeast. Definitely looks like metabolites though.

Throw it away. You literally touched the cake. Your cake is dead even if it previously was not. Beyond any redemption. It is kill.
Next time, NEVER expose the cake to the outside environment before birthing except for when you do the injection. Even air exposure can contaminate it and your hand will ABSOLUTELY contaminate the cake.

No, it is colonized but not FULLY colonized. A fully colonized cake is white all over, without any substrate let for the mycelium to expand.
edit: I am stoopid. Did not realize it was a rolled cake.

It's slime mold, probably fuligo, toss.
Potential causes: it was there from the beginning (unlikely IMO), there is bacteria in there that weakened the mycelium enough for it to germinate (MUCH more likely).
Possible causes of bacteria: endospores survived the sterilizarion cycle, they were in the syringe, or you introduced them during inoculation.
Hope this helps.
