Tripping for guidance?
    #24023060 - 01/19/17 02:17 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Question: I'm seriously considering a big career move right now and 80-90% "there" in giving it a go. I'm thinking about taking a heavy dose (4-5g) this weekend and asking my 'higher self' what to do. Near the end of the peak and comedown. It's been about 2 months since my last trip and 6 months since my last 'heavy' (5g) trip.

Anyone else do this? Any advice?

Background:

I'm 10 years into my chosen profession and I've enjoyed a good deal of success. However, I'm feeling trapped and limited at my current company (of the past several years) and I'm strongly considering changing companies.

In a nutshell, it's going from being a big fish in a small pond to a relative minow in a tier 1 company. But, it's the only way I can see growing further.

There is an annual publication that lists the top 1% individuals in the country in my field. 25% of the top 1% work for this one company.

But, it's a big change and carries a certain amount of financial risk and leaving my comfort zone. Feels like stepping up from the minors to the major league. This seems to be how I move myself along to the next milestone.

I'm comfortable at my current job but I feel that I've plateud and it's as good as it will ever be. This leaves me frustrated because I know am capable of far MORE. I can do anything I set my mind to. And honestly, what I do isn't exactly what I want to do, it's just something that I'm good at and pays lucratively.

This job can provide the foundation to transition into a second career in another 10 years or so.

The universe seems to be nudging my along.

There is no "high self" to give you advice, you know.  What you might be able to do is take a clearer look at what you're contemplating, but no secret exalted knowledge is going to come along and show you the way to choose.  The guidance comes from within...

Don't make life decisions while tripping.  Integrate what you find and use it.

IME the more psilocybin I take the less personal the experience becomes. Once I pass the 3/4 gram mark (assuming the quality is decent) then it's no longer about me it's more about it and even on the low doses I don't find it super personal. It can be but really only during a certain part of the trip, usually right before the peak or right after and sometimes during.

Interesting. It's HIGHLY personal for me. My trips all seem to be about seeing where I am, how I got here and where I'm going.

Really? Is it that way for you even in high doses? Because 3 or 3.5 grams though it mostly deals with things outside of my self and outside of the human world in general it can still be fairly introspective and reflective at certain parts but on 5 grams there is nothing personal in sight, maybe some introspective realizations on the comedown or after the peak but still it's not even close to the focal point of the experience.

But ya only certain parts of the mushroom experience for me is reflective, LSD on the other hand can give me introspection at all points of the experience and sometimes even for the whole experience.

Yep, even on higher doses all though it's more on the come down at that point.

On the come down of my first 5g trip, I inquired about what I'm supposed to do in this life, what do I want, etc and the answer I got back was so unbelievable that all I could do was laugh and say "Okay..."

But that was over 6 months ago and now I'm starting to see the pieces fall into place that could make this possible one day.

Go looking for guidance and you might find yourself confused when the answer is not obvious and appearing right before you. Although, if you are not  desperate you may find what you seek. Last time i had a really introspective life trip i made the decision to go back to college. That was a couple of years ago and I have not regretted that. I now look back and know I am right where I am suppose to be. The molecule led me in the correct direction.

I would do acid when it comes to decisions. When it comes to being "lost" I'd use mushrooms. just  :2cents:

I like tripping for guidance, although usually the trips which guide me the most weren't undertaken with that intention.

The Persians used to only make a decision once they'd considered it both while drunk and while sober. Clever people.

Thanks peeps.

I've found that shrooms are immensely helpful in seeing the "how this lead to that, lead to this which eventually lead to today, "tada!"

Sometimes I wonder if they can grant wishes.

I never really bought into the whole law of attraction bit until my first trip took me back to see my 10 years old self standing on a soccer field, asking the universe for just a few things in life and here I am, 20+ years later having received everything I asked for.

I decided to test a theory of the "law of attraction".

Twice on trips now I've "asked the universe" near the end of the peak/come down for more business and twice I have literately been flooded with new business beginning the next Monday. Coincidence? Maybe... probably.. but makes you wonder.

Kind of makes sense, if you think about the nature of the universe as giving you whatever reality you 'want'. Makes sense if you're in charge of your own destiny. To some extent anyways.

It's all part of the magic I guess.

In fact, that's really what's lead me to consider leaving my company. That new business is HIGHLY profitable but my current company is not equipped to capture the business. We're working on it but it's slow and cumbersome.

The company I'm considering is a tier 1 and captures better then anyone else.

I would also be working with someone who could mentor me further and I've already known for a number of years.

It's really just taking that leap of faith. Like the working up the courage to smoke that DMT or eat those shrooms

Hopefully equally well worth it in the end!

It's been my experience, every job change has led to better and better things.

Update to the post:

So I ended up not tripping that weekend or any weekend but I did decide this career change is what I wanted and now the gears are turning to make it happen.

Right now, I'm thinking I will have a good trip either before I start the new gig or shortly into it. The "refreshed" feeling you get following a good trip leaves me with euphoria on life and motivation towards work.

I have come to find that the mushroom/the trip "state of mind always tends to tell me to keep doing what im doing. It doesnt like change all that much.

Im willing to bet that the mushroom will tell you to stay put. thats just my opinion.

I feel that with the right intention and with the correct question, the mushrooms will help you find a solution to almost any problem. It's not necessarily that the mushroom will tell you what to do, but it will open you up to a new perspective where you answer the question for yourself.

It sounds like you already know what you want to do, so maybe you don't need this trip afterall! In the future though, set down a clear intention but don't be afraid to follow the trip if it takes you somewhere else. In my experience, even a well grounded intention can result in a trip very different to what you expected - but it's always exactly what you needed.

This is an interesting question and one I've been through myself. For a time i believed that the mushrooms experience could be used to find answers to complex life problems.

I have found amazing revelations in the midst of insane trips into my mind. I have come to realizations that have changed my life and my focus and removed lifelong anxieties.

But never when I'm looking for them. Only when I'm completely open and not searching. When i go looking for answers it only leads to confusion and frustration and a less enamored trip.

I guess what they say is right. You must not seek the answers, but let the answers seek you.

Completely agree that questioning too directly can leave one feeling confused or lost. I believe it all comes down to not trying to find anything, but allowing the answer to come to you. It's a delicate balance between putting out the intention and being completely accepting of whatever you receive.
