Growing woodlovers on saw dust

Does anyone have any experience transferring wood-loving clones to bulk via saw-dust.
I have a few different clones in progress - farthest along are probably my cardboards clones

I'm starting to think about how I want to transfer these to a bulk substrate (i.e. eventually hardwood chips). I was thinking that I could first let them colonize some moistened saw dust, and then ultimately mix this with the woodchips. The other option I've considered is to put the clone directly into woodchips and hope that it makes the jump.
Anyone have any insight?

I've found that sawdust contaminates pretty quickly unless 100% sterile. Because you're using stem butts you have to assume your mycelium has bacteria and mold growing on it. If you'd like to go the proper route, you can take a slice of mycelium and transfer it to agar, then make grain spawn. Check out PastyPlates for making agar, and watch RogerRabbit's videos on making grain spawn (search "Perfect Grain Spawn" on Youtube).
Try to think of it this way: if you add ANY nutritious substrate (rye, bird seed, bran, etc.), bacteria and mold have a fighting chance to take over. That's why growers sterilize. Woodchips and sawdust don't have protein so only certain bacteria and mold can colonize it. Because it has less nutrition, woodlovers grow a little slower on it.
If you'd rather not go the sterile route, your best bet is to soak woodchips in water for 24 hours, then place your cardboard pieces into a container with the woodchips. The more sterile the better, so I'd boil the chips for an hour after the soak.
Do you plan on keeping these inside or outside? I think I remember you saying you're from the bay area, so right now is definitely ok to have them outside. The mycelium does much better outside when fighting against contaminants.
Here's my allenii grow if you want to see how I went about it: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23946180

Cool This was exactly the kind of info I wanted to learn before screwing up my grow.
I actually already have a plate going from a sample of a fruit I found recently. So your advice would be to drop a wedge of this into a grain jar? How do I get the agar into the jar while keeping the jar sterile? I have to open it right, so Im guessing my SAB is a must.
In that case, I guess I will just drop the cardboard clones in with some woodchips (prepared as you suggest) and then just stick them outside. Is there a type of container that you have found works well?
Im tracking my grow here, in the outdoor cultivation forum. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24013058

A lot of info on this board. Not really about growing to term inside, but a lot of info none the less.

Ya what's with the thread hijack? Just use the search function.
etrib, if you already have a section on agar I'd make a SAB and transfer it to grains. You only need a small section. Do you have everything to make grain?
For the cardboard mycelium, you can use any container. Just leave the top open so theres fresh air exchange. I use laundry basket totes.

For the cardboard id use sterile coir..just place the cardboard under it n let the coir colonize a bit then put it outside in a planter with chips.

That seems like a good idea. What do you think about adding it to more cardboard, letting that colonize, and then putting that in the planter with chips. I guess restated, is there a reason to prefer the coir to more cardboard?
