I've been using Arch Linux the past 3 years, Debian for roughly 5 years before that and Ubuntu/Mint based distros for 2 years prior.

That falls under Gnu/Linux, Chrome OS does as well for anyone who doesn't know.

Well, it's running the kernel anyway, but it's not really "GNU/Linux". It would be more like Android/Linux. There's probably even an RMS rant about it on the GNU site somewhere, haha.

Like many Linux flavors Android would be debatable in the Gnu category since it has some nonfree software included but for the sake of a poll like this I think it would be best to peg as that even if it's purely based on the kernel
I'm only trying to simplify this poll for people who are not that computer savy.

I wrote fortran programs in openVMS.
I was using windows 7, I am switching over to linux mint with a windows 7 VM.
Have used Amiga-OS OpenVMS, ProDOS, CP/M, OS/2, OSX, BSD, Solaris, ASM, Hex Code, hp-41C, every Microsoft release, IOS.

I'd say stay away from Mint if you plan on running a dedicated VM within it. Mint is a nice OS but it's very bloated. I suppose you could always do a minimal net install though and build it up yourself.

I am running it already and It isn't bad. I have a pretty fast computer. I will keep working on it. I am getting really sick of windows, but I have a few programs that I need that only work in windows. (don't say wine)
I am using mono to run one windows program.

Curious of this myself since it's usually just games that keep people from making the switch. There's more than likely stable alternatives for anything else.
