Setup and tuning in a tent
    #23978165 - 01/03/17 08:37 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I am currently setting up a grow tent and would like some advice and input from some experienced cultivators such as your selves.

1. Tent is a mylar reflective, heavy duty fabric that i purchased for a reasonable price at a local grow shop.

Inside is set up with a 37x24x72 shelf i purchased at Wal-Mart.

2. My FAE will be inlet fans that will be here friday and some duct work.

There will be an air filtration system that i have ready to build.  Its a combination of enclosing the fan in a box and adding a home furnis filter. Will update once that is complete.
The upper hole will be my outlet.  The lower my inlet.  I figure since heat rises and carbon dioxide floats (right?), this is how it should work.

3. Heat is regulated by a automatic heater set around 72°. Fluctuation between 72-76 though.  But rarely over 80°. Thermometer might say otherwise but I didnt have it in the incubating chamber for a few days while i was trying to dial that back in.

Right now its yelling at me cause the heat is a tad high.

4.  Humidity (for now) is regulated by a warm humidifier. Friday the rest of my cool mist will be here and constructed. Im at a steady 91% with what i have ATM.

5. Filtration is a purifier on the inside of the tent. But when then new fans get her i have enough wood to construct a filter from furnis filters, to purify upon inlet.

Here is what it should look like when finished this friday afternoon.

My questions are, 1.since the fans are set on a control mechanism, what speed should the fans be going? Should the inlet be faster than the otherlet, to provide more fresh air? Or should it be revese to suck out carbon dioxide?

2.Will the purifier be needed once the external filter is constructed and implimented?

3. After installing the equipment how long should I run everything to stabalize the environment before fruiting in it?

Any suggestions or corrective criticism is appreciated.

impressive.

seems better for growing bud? i wonder if you will have enough FAE inside.

all greenhouses require customization based off the individual grower..
your questions are good but i dont know if they can be answered cause everyones
setup/conditions are unique. it also depends on how much is inside producing heat ect.

cool though!! would be awesome to see it full of shroomies.

Thank you, I am wondering about the FAE also.  This is prolly my main question, I dont know what setting to have the fans and such.
I am also looking forward to it being filled.
I will post a grow log as soon as my first one happens, however it will be a little while.  Waiting on supplies. :frown: "Snail mail".

You might try unmodified monos in there. Maybe with a casing? It seems a bit complicated to be honest. I think its good to have a dialed in space, but the smaller the space, the harder it is to regulate environment with heaters/ humidifiers etc. Keep it simple.

You have a self contained zone...What teks can you use from the forum to apply to your space that are mostly self sustaining? KISS method.

Thank you for all your knowledge and advice guys.  I have switched things up a little, and its producing results.  Couldn't be happier right now with this.
Earlier there were a lot of moving parts in my plan.  All the extra fans and misting machine, upon reading further RR made a statement somewhere, wish I could find it.  But he said it would be more beneficial to just have the humidifier in the tent, (he was posting on someone else's GH). Along with KISS method I just decided to put it all inside.

I struggled getting the right amount of water in the right container with this ultrasonic mist maker and almost gave it up.  Then I saw a video on making a homemade float and it all clicked.
So here is my Ultrasonic humidifier and float.

From start to finish...
Lid to tupperware container, traced the humidifier out on top and cut with Exacto blade.  Then I aligned a mini-round container under the lid and marked it to have holes made in it for securing it to the lid.
I picked a punch that was as thick as the zip-tie and heated it to make hole in the lid for the mini-round.  The mini also has holes in the lid for the ties to go through on the lip (inner and outer, hot punch will slide all the way through). Then the two pieces were fastened together with moderate tension.

The sponges were cut in half and placed on all four ends.  One more hole was punched (or melted) in the lid to allow it to float. Then I used the Exacto to cut  hole through the sponge and ran the zip-tie through the same hole as the ties securing the mini-round, then around the sponge and through the hole in the sponge and the top of the container.  When tightening these ties I left them with moderate slack, because I want the sponge to float but also weigh down for water to leak in the mini-round.

To allow water into the mini-round I melted holes on all four sides alternating between a single bottom hole and a double hole.

An I still run this other humidifier on low so it will let the mist float upwards.

Heat is still supplied from within with a ceramic heater with a built in fan.

Humidity and temps are stable and have been impressing me, every time I open the tent now a nice cool mist hits my face. * I am going to rewire all my things and get timers and modify them to run in cycles. *

I have kept the purifier in the tent for peace of mind, I'm not sure if it is required or not.

I have ditched the whole FAE design I had earlier, as Crispy said,
Keep It Simple Stupid.
I also was misunderstanding the purpose of the GH.  I was looking at one as an environment needed by the mushrooms to flourish, when in actuality it is a crutch for the cultivator.  (THANKS CRISPY!!!).

After this advice I changed the design and now run the fans once a day to clear the air, and let the humidifier and purifier provide FAE.

So with all this in place I am running a good constant temp and humidity %.

And then about three days after getting everything done and going, I saw this...

So I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious.

Things to do, get timers and rewire my cords,  get this little test cake done, and put a unmoded mono in it and see how she does.
I will update when I get a first fruit from my GH/tent set up.

Thanks Guys and Gals have a great day
:bye:

Well I think I have it all figured out.  However since I have been running the fan for FAE my shrooms are looking better.
They could be better.
This is my first ever fruit, there were a lot of learning experiences here and thanks for all the help guys.

The only issue i can see is with the fan going, the humidity drops to 80%.  So in the future I am going to get a multi head fogger.  The thread will be updated when i do this.

I agree that its better suit to grow bud. I thought when i read need help with tent it was going to be "growing like a high roller" tent.  Money is money and why waste effort for ill gotten grans. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13229947
Its this god dam simple.
Even the bigger green house work great in this way and can hold 48 trays size of yours

I got that tent for 29 bucks but normal price is $69. I bet your tent cost more like $100. If its a tent then use this set up. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23768017

Yes the tent was 100 bucks.  I had a martha tent, but my grow area is the garage (not the cleanest) so i decided to go with an actual tent so it can be sealed up and shut off from the garage.
ONLY reason i decided to get an actual tent.
But thanks for the info.

Well this is the weak ass harvest off the two test cakes I had.
But its my frist successful grow, from here itll be tuning in my TEK.
Since I had redone my FAE the mushrooms blew up over the next two nights.

I dont see any need to update this thread again.  I know the GH will work, my temps are stable, humidity is stable, and FAE is optimal.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
If you would like to see how this GH performs after this, then just watch for some logs thatll be coming soon.
