Nuclear grade HEPA

Looking at several "nuclear" grade hepa filters 24"x24"x11.5" on ebay between $130- $150. They are 99.97% efficient at 1000-1130cfm, but from my understanding a 4sq ft laminar flow area only will require around 500cfm. Im not sure if i can include links, but will these grade of filters fit the bill or would the flow be too turbulant vs something specifically laminar grade. Ordering first thing in the AM so hopefully I'll get some input soon.

Nuclear grade sounds like sales pitch to make you pay more. A HEPA filter is just a very fine air filter that can stop the flow of dust, spores and particulates. Should only cost you twenty bucks. It will not stop radon gas. Some marketers come up with bullshit

According to Flanders this is what they mean by ''Nuclear Grade'' not that it actually filters out radiation
Quote:
The Quality Assurance Program at Flanders Filters has been audited and approved numerous times by the Nuclear Utilities Procurement and Inspection Committee, NUPIC. This committee was established by nuclear electric utilities to ensure that suppliers of goods and services meet all applicable regulatory and quality requirements.
You need a filter that filters up to 0.3 μm
Also due to it being 11.5inches in width it will need more CFM to pump dirty air in so don't worry about it. It's better to find one with a 6inch depth or a 4inch depth. I think mine is 4.5'' inches in depth and I use a CFM that is 500 and then adjusted accordingly with pre-filters to achieve laminar flow
in simple terms you basically have a fan that blows dirty air and it is pushed through the filter. That's all it is. Fuck math

From my understanding nuclear grade means it can withstand certain heat and stress requirements vs filtering anything nuclear, I can't find a 24"x24" Hepa cheaper than $120 shipped anyways, so the 'nuclear grade' isn't really any more money, I was just wondering if the flow would be right and if the 99.97% rating is sufficient

99.97% rating is sufficient for cultivating work, obviously 99.99% is better
You can test out the flow using the lighter test method. You can also re-assure yourself by pouring agar on a couple of petris infront of a flowhood and wait a couple of days to see if there are any contaminants developing

Yes I think 800cfm would be good for that including the .10 resistance from the pre-filters
If you can get a larger work space area, go for it, I wish I did cause my 24x24 is not enough and can be a pain in the ass

Well I'm thinking about that 24x48 but its used and Im not sure if they took good care of it and it isn't all clogged with particulates and such. If anyone has any input before I order in the morning, please share, I have a budget of about $150 if possible

I wouldn't buy a used one.
Get a new filter and don't settle for anything lesser than that.

All the filters that I am looking at are 11.5" thick, the thinner ones are hard to find at the right efficiency. Ill keep looking.

I know the struggle man, it took me months before I found one with the right width. Just keep searching

Ordered a brand new Camfil 2'x3', the 4ft just seemed too big to be taking up space in my little singlewide trailer. The panel is made for laminar flow so i know it will work and the ebay seller accepted my offer so it came to just $15 over my budget. http://www.ebay.com/itm/262338700741
