Unless they are under pine straw, in my experience they have always been in spots that stay shady most of the day, but do see a little sunshine at some point. Also they typically surround areas that have puddles or stay really soggy for a few days after the rains. My patches usually are in full swing about 3 days after those puddles dry up.
Here are a couple of pics from today. I think this will be the last of them from my patches until we get some more rain.

When you're looking in developed areas don't discount somewhere because it receives a lot of sunlight everyday. Those I posted last were completely exposed, in sunlight almost all day. I've never found any in the woods so I can't speak towards that though...

For example from earlier this week, these are growing in almost all day sunlight exposure:

Breeg, I've seen your pics before and about crapped myself. I think we are going to the same spot if not very close. It's ok though.. There is plenty to go around!
Your gf is a keeper.
And true that. You seem like the type to respect the patch, so it's all good man.
Some kind of mutant?

And lewp, that clay does look rocky as shit. I can't believe they were growing in that. I've seen the lacs grow in straight sand and rocky shit, but that's impressive for caerulescens.

Sorry doc, missed this post. Very glad to hear you've spread them around man.
I have been back to both patches, and no action at all over the past couple of weeks. The entire park basically turned into a lake last weekend though. So with any luck, they'll start popping up all in there in a couple years.
I also have some LC brewiing, which I will use to coat some watershed type areas - primarily in Dekalb, but I'll try to hit Gwinnett and maybe some other counties too.

Few shots from this week. Just had another little one, so needless to say I hadn't been doing much photography. I did however find a new area and was able to find about 6 seperate patches scattered around in various habitats from pine straw to fescue and Bermuda. I like to look in parks and shopping centers because of public access and the fact that most are irrigated. Also has a lot more landscaping for them to hide around.

IME YES! flushes will take some time though between each, with one or two specimens sprouting between each of the extended rains. Once temps hit consistent 90+, with slight drizzles, and no cool nights,, I see nothing!
also man, don't fixate on pine, I know, I know, everyone will disagree with me, but I find these things literally everywhere...
Remember that sidewalk they put in a couple years back, CHECK IT! Remember that drainage ditch they put in a couple years back, CHECK IT! Oh yea isn't that mcdonalds next to that pine forest only like 4-5 years old and puddles with water everywhere... CHECK IT!
My best advice is get OUTTA THA CAR! I can walk 150 yards from home and find them, I can walk a mile and find them, I can drive 30 miles and find them...
You can do IT! Start walkin!

I'm wondering this too. I have observed them in full sun exposure just as he has. A few places even put out only dime sized caps making them incredibly hard to see. I notice the ground is even dry as can be and hard as a rock... I suspect the morning dew has much to do with their survivability...
At first I was considering they may have been a diff species but this years weather confirmed weilii as the much larger "round and browns" popped in place of the cute little guys.

Thanks Confuzzed...
I'm embarrassed at how much time I wasted looking for them last week instead of working... don't tell my boss lol... looked a lil in Gwinnett, a lot in N Fulton Roswell/Alpharetta, over in Woodstock, around Powers Ferry & Mt Paran (did find some nice chants though) and several points in between... I know I'm close because of the faint whispers I hear... I'm at the point now where I'm just looking for them everywhere...
Cham's pics of them under pinestraw and that first pic of his was in a fescue lawn (the one he colored the shroom with blue/green highlighter lol), Lewp's pic of them in red clay, gravel, Bermuda mix, Doc, Bloody, & Phish posting pics in moist shady woodlands with ferns, moss, etc... and even Forest's gf finding one at her office... habitats seem varied, but there are definitely things like soil disturbance & moisture, sun exposure, existence of pines, sweetgums, etc...
I did get some great big ol bug bites that are itching like hell... looks like a good chance of rain all next week, so hope my luck changes... good luck folks and happy Sunday...

Weilii or caerulescens do not produce sclerocia. Sclerotia are mycelial knots that form under the substrate. They are called stone producing species such as Atlantis, Mexicana, and tampanensis. Most are considered tropical. But no, weilii do not produce them.
