There's gotta be pine or sweet gum around. I look for lumps in the pine straw.
This is the best picture I have on hand

Is this just in the middle of the woods? Or near buildings/recent development? All mine have been man-made destruction developed type areas

i've been thinking of these more and more since i live right on the line between sandy/loamy and red clay here in VA. like you go two miles west from mi casa as the crow flies and you're in the reddest of red clay for many miles (it runs all up and down the appalachians if you've ever looked at one of those soil type maps).
not only that, but we've got pine plantations (not loblolly) and a lot of land that gets clear cut then is allowed to grow over...it gets eroded pretty badly in the first couple years while the briars and whatnot are taking over, simulating some of the habitats i see in these and the old threads.
sure would be sweet to get a patch or ten of these monsters going...it gets too hot, ovoids shut off, then caeruls pop up late june when it's high 80's to mid 90's with a threat of t-storms every day.
these are way bigger on average than puny ovoids as well.
ETA: sorry to spam yer thread, y'all. (see, i even speak Georgian)

Damn Cham, you are killing it! I have been lazy the past couple of years. I had a sewer trail patch that is super convenient for my commute. I typically park in a nearby neighborhood and walk over to where the trail crosses a main road. Last week I was checking it out and when I came back to my car there was an irate man waiting for me. He said he has seen my car there before and threatened to call the cops if he saw it again. I tried to explain I was just taking a walk on the sewer trail, but he just kept saying it was private property and I was trespassing over and over.
Anyway, I went out scoping new spots today. I wasn't having any luck so I decided to check on a patch that hasn't done much in the past couple of years. I found 3 in the usual area and after searching the surrounding area I found a pretty nice patch of some good old fashioned round browns. There were about 30 in all, sorry for the shitty phone pics.

My woodland patches produce one's that are dark brown like that. This weather has been ideal... Just started hunting again after retiring for a couple years and pretty hopeful after looking at all y'alls findings.

Hello all this is my first time posting but I have been keeping track of the threads the past couple year. I have been looking for a good 2 and a half years and i finally found my first few yesterday in cherokee on a slight slope in a newer neighborhood just slightly poking out the grass. Good luck to all.

Question on patches that havent produced in years, do you find they can come back? Or are they written off as a lost cause
