I was wondering. I have seen mentioned in a couple of threads but I am wondering, is it possible to freeze dry mushroom mycelium grown on, lets say brown rice, powdered, then rehydrated later and revived and have it growing again? If you have any research papers on the matter I would love to see them.

I do believe this is possible and is the industry standard method of culture preservation.

I dont think its possible. I had a few mushroom growing on a tree stump and they were doing very well. But in that same week temperatures hit to about 30*F and now they all shriveled and died.

How do you know they died? Shriveled means they dehydrated, not necessarily that they're dead and not growing. It's well known that you can dry a mushroom out and then grow it again from that. It would stand to reason that so long as the cellular structure is intact that the mycilium is likely viable. Freeze drying should preserve them fine. Regular freezing, unless they are dried, will cause massive cellular death though as the ice crystals burst the cellular walls. Whether ALL of the walls are burst I don't know, and there probably lies your answer as to whether one can be revived from such conditions.

They might survive underground because it doesn't get below freezing and thus no ice crystals, no cells bursting. Or perhaps if it does it is dry enough in the ground to not cause such a problem. Just speculating.

Mycellium also generates its own heat so i would imagine it keeps itself warm inside insulated wood and underground pretty well, even in a good freeze.
