A little project I started
#24018139 - 01/17/17 06:38 PM (7 years, 13 days ago) |

So near the end of my previous (first) grow I started a small project with no expectations what so ever.
I had a pot with some peat moss and roots sitting in it from some herb I grew, and in one of my brf bags a small small chunk of mycelium had broke loose. I decided to toss this small chunk into the pot, bury it, and keep it moist. The first couple weeks growth was slow, almost barely visible, and now there is a noticeable amount of growth.
From what I've read peat moss is a poor substrate, but for whatever reason it's doing fairly well. I think I'll just keep adding peat moss until I get a good substrate depth if I can keep it going that long.
I'll post pics tomorrow

There's a nice little patch of mycelium right by the base of that stem, and spots of myc on the roots that is too small for me to take a pic of. Like I said, I didn't expect anything from this, if I can get a flush from this I'll be surprised.

Is that molted snake skin? It looks just like shed snake skin. Gross.
Actually, my snake shed's a lot of skin and I have often wondered what it could be used for Not necessarily in this hobby, just in general

No it's not snake skin lol, it's the remaining mesh from a jiffy seed starter. Again I'll restate this, I started this project with NO expectations. I didn't expect growth, I don't expect fruits, I just threw a piece of myc in there for the fuck of it. Honestly, the fact that the myc looks healthy and contam free on a macroscopic level is surprising. IF I can keep this going till late spring without it producing fruits I'll probably just dump it in a hole and see what happens from there.

Your not expecting growth any fruits, so your just posting a bucket of contams for no reason.

Yeah it's cubensis myc. I'm posting this because despite my expectations there is some growth and I figured maybe someone would be interested in seeing if such a haphazard approach will produce a flush. Clearly I have been mistaken and apparently only grows that have been done with care and precision are recognized on this forum. I guess I am the only one intrigued by the stubbornness of life and it's persistence to thrive and multiple against innumerable odds, if this is true I'll happily take down my post so as not to inconvenience everyone who chooses to read it.

Thanks, I will. It's nice seeing someone else interested in a less than half assed grow with minimal to no chances of success lol. With past experiences in other slim chance scenarios I've found that the results tend to go 1 of 2 ways, either nothing happens as expected or the results are beyond the realms of rationality and logic.
A few details I should probably include; I currently have no lid to promote GE, there are no nutrients being supplemented and the piece of mycelium that I initially put in there is post 3rd flush.

It looks like fun, have at it! I plan on doing all kinds of wingnut grows once I have my TEK down better. I did grow Psilocybe cyanescens on leftover outdoor cannabis stocks/stems once, worked like a charm.
If this does pop a fruit by some miracle, clone that little survivor!

That which does not kill us only makes us stronger. Maybe the same can be said for mushrooms since we're both aerobic organisms lol. If it does produce a fruit I'll definitely clone it, assuming I have some plates ready! I might order some premade plates specifically for that purpose. I say order because I'm too damn lazy to go through the process of making them for something so unlikely to succeed, and I still don't own a PC lol. I do have some spores I could start on some plates but I'm not ready to start another grow that I'm actually putting effort into.

Nah, don't buy premade plates, very expensive and odds are they'll be contam'd by the time they reach you. A small cheap PC will open up so many doors that you can't do without it
