AE for agar containers
    #24017250 - 01/17/17 12:18 PM (7 years, 13 days ago)

Guys, I'm trying to jump to agar. I have some mini rounds and some lock"n"locks that are PP5. I thought they were to be air tight from the descriptions of petri's using parafilm but on further searching I see that you want air/gas exchange.

I went out last night to find micropore tape and nothing claims to be micropore. I read someone had used poly but I am still curious about the tape. I am in Canada by the way, I think most tapes are micropore in the first aid section but what am I looking for exactly?

Paper, plastic or cloth? OR... any other suggestions.

Thank you to Adden for hooking me up with helpful links and the TC's who put the teks together. Forgive me, I have that feeling of intimidation like when I started my first PF. I am just gathering the equipment now and need to build a SAB for the first time. I've always done G2G open air with only 2 contaminations out of 60 or 70, but I'm not going to the trouble of cleaning up with agar to transfer in open air.

I've asked dumb questions in the past now that I look back but its because I'm still new and overthink I guess. I appreciate any advice that is offered.
Thank you brothers

I use cloth. I have used the plastic one in the past with no problems, but cloth works for me. And when they say micropore they mean with holes, and you can see the holes. Its not like they are too small for the naked eye. Just get first aid tape with holes. Tiny little fukers, but you can see um'.

Micropore tape Should say micropore tape on the inside of the roll

Would probably avoid any brand other than 3M

Much appreciated fella's.

I was going to grab the paper but I guess if the cloth works I'll get some of that then. I asked the pharmacist and she said all micropore was blown out last year. The packages are now unmarked as to whether it's micropore and the rolls are packaged so you can't see the inside of the roll no matter which stores I went to.

Thank you guys

They've always been like that. At least on the island where I live! Maybe in M'erica the tape says "CUBE TAPE" right on the front but I believe You gotta guess by looking at it.

Found it, it's the paper.

micropore=paper, durapore=cloth, transpore=plastic. Looks like you can use any of them though from what I have heard now.

I have used poly in my pasty plates and it works as well. Just as an FYI.
