PF Tek to agar?
    #24016621 - 01/17/17 06:50 AM (7 years, 13 days ago)

Hey all, recently discovered in a pinch you can technically take the mycelium from a BRF cake and place it on agar then clean it up from there. My only issue is I'm not sure how the sterile procedure would work, as I really wouldn't want to be disturbing the dry verm layer and sending contams flying around my SAB. Anyone have any specific ideas or experience doing this that can help out?

Why not just fruit the cakes and take tissue from the best fruit and put it on agar for future culture

:whatshesaid:

If you really want to take myc from your jars, wait till you fruit them, and just snag a small piece off.  But your best bet would be to clone a fruit when they pop up

Only one of the six cakes actually germinated without also coming along with trich. 4 did nothing at all. Plus waiting weeks upon weeks and then fruiting a single cake seems pointless if I can just take the mycelium I need now.

Well it would be best to fruit it and clone the healthiest fruit so you have good genes and not just taking a section  myc to raise at random without knowing if it has good potency, growth, speed if you want you can but it would be better to get an idea of the traits your growing out on agar:mushroom2:

Sounds like you need to go back to spores to agar

Only thing spore wise I got right now are syringes, which seem to be terribly bacterial, even though they're vendor. I don't think any of my 10 PDA plates showed anything of value even after 18 days so far.

It was right at the bottom of the jar under an inoculation hole so I blame the syringe. If it was near the top I could understand it being my own fault, but I'm not so sure given the location.
