I got this master culture today through my error and it set in the cold and rain for a week. Any way to save it. Or limited way to fruit it

tump thats disgusting

you could possilby try and fruit direct from the spawn and then clone the pins. It might not fruit looking at the state of that though.

Get some newspaper tear and cook it up, throw some of that crappy spawn in a container.
Throw about an 4 inch depth's worth of cooked paper, wait, scoop of the top.

Then agar that sample you took, and start the culture again.

What culture is it?  If it is something common (and you are in the US) I could just send you a wedge and save you the trouble.

If you do decide to save it I highly recommend putting some gentamicin in your agar.  You can find it as a piglet injection on the web or maybe a local feed store.  It is autoclavable so put it in before you sterilize.

Once it starts running on the plate - like as soon as you see new myc - transfer a wedge (myc side down on the new agar) and pour enough hot (sterile) agar over the transfer to cover the wedge.  The myc should beat any contamination through the new agar - shave a piece just as it comes through and transfer again.  PIA I know but it works!

Oh yeah - don't run your hood when working with contam, just work it in a still air box.  You can fire the hood up for the steps above, but certainly not for the initial transfer as you will just be blowing contam all over the damn place

Looking for good fruiting strains of gourmet cultures.  Need Nameko right now.

Tump

You could break that cake up and layer it with pasteurised substrate in a basket, seal into a plastic bag and colonise it!

We just recently did that with an ancient reishi cake and its fruiting quite well.

Then take a sample and dump some unmodified wood on top of it.
I would still agar a sample, so you can enrich a grow.

Found my images, Here I did dirty Golden oyster to enriched (WL-Tek) brown card.
Later I dumped enriched (WL-Tek) modified* pine pellets, with rich growth.

* Calcium carbonate saturated to increase pH.
