Brown Rice Flower + Coconut Coir + Vermiculite? Bulk Substrate.

So I am doing a monotub this time around with a Coco Coir and Vermiculite mix, but I have some BRF left over from my last PF tek.
Would adding it to the mix be beneficial in anyway? Or just a waste?

it would add more nutrients but imho it would increase the chance of contamination and i doubt it would make a big impact so just make some more cakes worst case u crumble them for spawn

well if you have access to poo or compost, swim always seem to get great results from compost and usually just uses straight compost, but i make it so its free and abundant for me and poo isnt hard to find(never pay for sub if u can help it), i like horse over cow but it works about the same.

might just be wishful thinking but i think good compost makes considerably more potent shrooms also outdoor fruitings and real sunlight can have an impact

I agree that would likely contaminate.

Is there any reason as to why it would contaminate easier?

It would be better to just crumble up some brf cakes to some pasteurized coir instead.

because contams like to eat brf and it would give them a good nutrient start, verm and coir are not particularly nutritious and contams have a harder time getting set up on just that alone, the healthy mycelium can run right over it before the contams get a chance to start

It would contaminate because it's nutrient rich. Take some brf and mix it in an equal amount of water and 24 hours later it'll start fizzing from obvious yeast growth. If the yeast did not take it over, from already being present within the flour, then something else would, mold, bacteria, everything loves flour. That's why it's such a staple of our diet.

colonised grains or PF jars are resistant to contams, as they are colonised and established. I have had moist verm, coir, and coir/verm mixtures which were moist remain fine for months, with rice in the mix they would be ruined within a week. The only way I could see it working is if you had very high spawn ratios, i.e. adding loads of colonised grains to a small amount of bulk. Not worth the risk.
