New here but not to mushrooms! 1

Just wanted to say hello.
I have been growing gourmet mushrooms for ~5 years (family consumption) and decided to set up an account on shroomery. I will be posting as I get set up in our new house.
Things on grain now - 6 different strains of shiitake Black poplar Lion's mane An oyster that we cloned from CO
I am going to start tackling a lot of cultures that I haven't grown out before and may be seeking advice. I will be posting as I get results on the things that aren't seen as often.
Working to get a new grow room set up now. I want it completely contained so the spores and humidity don't cause me hell.
Anyway, hello!

Thanks!
Sterilized sawdust (pellets) mostly in bags, using a 55 gallon steam sterilizer. I don't pasteurize anymore.
Not sure what you mean by fruiting methods? I am controlling temperature, humidity and air.

I missed you are making a new grow room. Checkout Gr0wer's threads, and YouTube channel. He has a more modern approach to cultivating, and updates regularly. Good luck.

Have fun with the Black Poplar, one of my favorites, and fairly easy. Although very strain specific. Can't remember which strain I had/may still have that was so awesome, but it really kicked ass. Other cultures of it, not as great. Hopefully you got a good one, looking forward to seeing how it does!
Edit: Was it Swordbelt? Or is that another species? Got damn, my memory sucks... been a while since I was actively growing...

It is Swordbelt! One of my favorites as well - flushes like crazy and I love the flavor. I have been moving so the things I have on grain now are just some good flushers to get some mushrooms back in the house as I get things set up again! I have another strain of black poplar as well and he myc is strong but I haven't ever gotten it to grain - the Swordbelt just made it too hard to try anything else.
On a completely different note - I will be building a chicken coop this year. The wife has had them before but I may hit you up for some advice as I really don't know what the fuck I am doing yet!

I can't wait to start my upcoming swordbelt grow, everyone seems to love it. Could you share how your yields were and what sort of substrate you used? I've never had the chance to try it but i've only heard positive reviews of the flavor too. very excited for this shroom

I use ~5lb sterilized sawdust blocks (pellets) supplemented with bran. Not sure what the yields are because that would require me to measure and record and ... all of the stuff that I find incredibly boring when I just want to grow mushrooms! You can expect the top of the block to be completely covered with the right fruiting conditions.

thanks for sharing your sub recipe, sounds like the same recommended in GGMM. He records BE around 65 to 80%. I think I'm going to try some alternate sub formulas to see how it effects yield

Congratulation, you've got the best strain of black poplar I've ever grown! One of my favorite muchrooms too. There may be a better strain, but I never even bothered looking for one, as Swordbelt did so well (unsupplemented!)
ANY and all questions about bird farming are always welcome, feel free to PM me any time! I know chickens, ducks, muscovies, quails, geese (and multiple varieties of each), as well as general coop construction, what to watch out for, predator proofing, disease recognition and treatment, incubating and hatching, you name it I've done it, and always love to help share the knowledge I've learned with experience.
