Oyster lighting ?
    #24013325 - 01/15/17 10:14 PM (7 years, 14 days ago)

Hi all

This is my first time growing Oyster mushrooms I have experience growing cubes but this is a whole other monster. So I am looking for some advice form experienced growers. I have about a week before my grow bags will be fully colonized. I am planing on growing in a mini greenhouse...

I am thinking on led lights for the grow. I know I need 6500K or 465nm any suggestions as to what is the best to buy, links would be nice. I will be growing 6 bags at a time. I am not worried about paying out a little more to get better results. If leds are not the way to go please let me know. I have grown many cubes with 6500k florescent 4 ft. tubes but I believe oysters require more light. I will be growing outside also once weather permits.

Thanks to everyone who responds

They don't need a lot more light. Light from the sun coming in a window is more than enough

With oysters FAE is going to be the main thing to worry about. As stated above lighting should be fine. They like the colder environment with loads of FAE. Good luck!

Sunblaster 6400 K lighting. They rock. They are affordable. I use 6 tubes for a 14x7 foot space... Oysters like light.

I don't think I agree. You dont need to bring in any fresh air to a space to grow oysters. You can re-circulate all the air. Temp is crucial. Humidity is everything IMO.

So do you thing one 4 ft Sunblaster for each side of the greenhouse hanging vertically will be ok? I have this humidity controller...

hooked up to a humidifier to keep humidity right.

I was going to use a bathroom exhaust fan to exchange the air 3 or 4 times a day and see how that works out and adjust from there. This is how I had my cubes set up and it worked great but again not sure with the oysters.

Thanks everyone for your replies and input you all are AWESOME!!

.....the only way you can control the temp and effectively move the air in a sealed grow chamber is to bring in fresh air.....it's like running a fan with no ac...eventually you can't even feel it unless you open the window

Sorry Azur..right back at you..I grow thousands of pounds of Oyster and Shiitake per year this way in shipping containers. I'm in year 4 of my business..This is how I earn my keep. You only have to exhaust air in the warmer months..Makeup air can be totally passive like from a floor drain in my case...Genetics, Temp and humidity really control growth. Lighting is secondary, but needed.

No intake air...Re-circulating...I only use my 4" exhaust in the Summer if it gets too hot, and I will be using a chiller this year to control heat so really no exhaust... Proof is in the weight. My yields are always extremely consistant. 3 plus years of notes man...

Notice the lack of Trich on the Shiitake?? Hmm. Humidity control is screwed with by airflow coming in and out...
