Any world music fans?
    #24013248 - 01/15/17 09:35 PM (7 years, 14 days ago)

I am not super into any particular stuff but I really dig rock and jazz with world influences like latin/ african stuff for example.

Anyways I have been really digging this album lately by Del Richardson who was the guitarist/ singer for Osibisa which is an old afro pop band. They were one of the first popular "world music" groups and also awesomely had their album artwork done by the one and only Roger Dean who did all of Yes's album covers as well as many other classic amazing albums/ bands art :awesomenod:

Here is the funky opening track:

Del Richardson - Do What You Can

I really love the albums overall positive message, really uplifting stuff  It has a great funky/ rock fusion vibe too with nice world influences.

Here is one of osibisa's covers:

Here is the cover of Del Richardson's solo album:

--------------------
Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Here is a song from the Del Richardson album where the world influences cone through a lot more then on the funky opening track:

I really love the lyrics on this one :sun: as well as the beautiful guitar/ vocal harmonies at the start.

I love world music, good stuff

Heres something a little different I suppose

I'm a huge fan of quantic if your into that Latin sound

Quantic & Flowering Inferno - Cumbia Sobre el Mar

And something completely different, these guys are a swiss folk metal band, but they do some acoustic stuff as well. Really completely different than what you were posting, but I think its still world music?

What I posted isn't the best world example,  the guitarist is just from a early Afro band.

It does have some folk/funk/gypsy jazz feela to it though,  pretty interesting fusion.

That Quantic song is pretty groovy :greenthumb:

I just got a few Ali Farka albums & albums with him sitting in off youtube, haven't checked em out yet but I am excited too

Here is some great latin fusion:

Malo - Malo

I really love the horns and interesting fusion elements, the first song starts out very latin influenced but some of the later stuff has a trippy jazzy/ rock vibe :awesomenod:

Lyrics in other languages are always cool too, very fun to listen to IMO for some reason.

I did not know that :strokebeard: Interesting.

I have only heard that album which I think may be their debut but I really dig it overall, really groovy and diverse music that spans heavily latin/ jazzy/ rockin stuff.

I guess they have like 7 other albums, any you would recommend?

Might have to look for some more to upload to youtube, been needing to find some new stuff as I have uploaded most of the stuff in my collection that wasn't up yet.
