Over the last 36 hours... * 1
    #24013168 - 01/15/17 09:02 PM (7 years, 15 days ago)

I've driven through a winter storm that dropped a foot of snow in under an hour.

I was run off the road into a snowbank along with a tractor-trailer in front of me by an out of control snowplow driver.

I've driven through the entirety of the worst ice storm in a decade through TX and OK where vehichles spun like tops, and vegetation glistened with heaviness.

I've driven through yet another snowstorm in of all places, East-Central New Mexico where the stark desert turned white in front of my eyes.

I've driven through two 10,000 foot mountain passes with freezing fog so dense, it would freeze in a layer on your skin if you were to open a window for more than minute.

I've driven over 1,500 miles with elevation changes totaling miles, literally.

The entirety of it in a 1996 Toyota Camry with over 300,000 miles on all-season tires.

What exciting things have you guys done and adventures had recently?

Some people really suck at driving. Especially in winter. My old coworker drove a MG looked like a clown car all Wisconsin winter.

That's quite awesome. The MG in WI puts a smile on face.

So many drivers are just terrified of anything but a light mist it seems.

There were two stretches that lasted around 6 hours where I was the only car on the road. Sharing it with only plows and semis.
In TX people were buying everything they could, as if it was the apocalypse.
It was rediculous in my mind as I wake up to more ice and snow than they received in total on at least a weekly basis.

This is my first real winter by the way. I lived in Tropical climates for the first three decades of my life.

Still learning, but enjoying the hell out of it.

I haven't had an outdoor surprise in close to a year. Cheers to you.

I lived in Houston six years.it snowed once. Looked like styrofoam balls. Melted on the ground as soon as they landed. It was a complete shit show. Walmart looked like Venezuelans just got a shipment of bread in.

Snow sounds shit. I mean.. I can understand the allure of a 'white christmas' and everything, but god damn it's so nice to have summer at this time of year, makes for an awesome chrissy.

I've been soaking up the sweltering Aussie summer, the heat and humidity have really picked up recently, but makes for perfect beach weather. Surf's been down, wind has been lackluster during the days, so;

I've been snorkelling/spearfishing the East coast of Aus for the past 2 months in some beautiful clear water

Explored a shipwreck 30m below the surface of the ocean last week

About to finish my next SCUBA course

Recently drove 1000km total to attend a festival out west with the lady friend

and in 3 weeks i'll be leaving to go exploring a foreign country alone for 3 months

I'd rather deal with snow related problems than the heat in australia right now... Yesterday at work it got to 47°C (117°F).

It's funny how when its hot you can't remember what it's like to be cold, and when you're cold it's hard to remember what it's like to be warm XD

I used to live in Wyoming -- two years and change on a work transfer. And the work consisted of a lot of driving. And I mean a lot. Like 4 hours a day. And those were on good days with no weather.

Winter was a fucking beast, man. Vicious snow storms were a regularity. Many, many sub zero temperature days with bone cutting winds. Roads stayed iced over for virtually the entire winter.

Dodging wild animals on the fucking road. Deer, antelope, free roaming cattle, coyotes, a badger once, fucking groups of eagles and vultures that would be in the middle of the road eating off dead animal carcasses (animals that were casualties of cars), and even the occasional wild horse (no bullshit).

Shit was fucking nuts having to drive in that. I'd be driving in that shit at like 4 in the morn and I swear, it looked like Siberia at times.

It was out of necessity. I had to drop a child off in OKC at a specific time.

But I really did enjoy the trip. I made it a point to take the most impacted route because I'm extremely intruiged by meteorology, and wish to go back to school to study it & climatolgy in the near future.

There were certainly stretches where I was quite scared. Mostly due to other drivers as is usually the case. But in the middle of that slight chaos there was so much damn beauty! :awesomenod:

Once upon a time...
I was a butt.

My legal residency has been in Colorado for 10 months now.

South Florida isn't a home for anyone, really.
