How long can cakes stay in the jars?

I have been unable to find the information I'm looking for anywhere on the internet. A while ago I started some jars, nocced em up, and let them colonize. When the time came to birth them, something came up (can't seem to remember what.) And I ended up leaving them to consolidate for 3-4 months. When the time came that I actually birthed them, they had not grown any shrooms invitro, but had developed brown spots all over. They weren't contaminated though, and ended up producing some decent-although not top par- fruits.
What's the longest you can leave your cakes invitro at 76°f? and if they don't pin inside the jars, what are the negatives of leaving them for so long?

No, the jars seem to be sealed enough that water vapor can't escape. I've opened up jars after a few months to find water droplets on the lid and walls of the jar. But I also don't poke holes in the lid of my jars, I do live culture inoculation which requires removing the lid to inoculate, nullifying the need for holes. The main thing I would imagine could negatively affect the culture would be senescence. Since the cake is at room temp, the mycelium would age at room temp rate, or does the senescence stop once the cake is fully colonized, since the cells are theoretically no longer dividing to grow into new substrate?

1 year is fine?!

In my opnion, dont let them sit more than a month after 100% colonization. 2 weeks post full colonization is ideal.
