Welcome to The Official 2017 Texas Mushroom Hunting Thread!
With the weather starting to warm up here in Texas, I figured we could use a thread to come together, share our findings, collaborate on knowledge and just have an all around place that belongs solely to us.
Please utilize this thread to the fullest of your ability, share often and make it your very own.

2016 was a great year for mushroom hunting here in the lone star state and I have a feeling, this year will be even better. So without any further ado, let's get this years thread going

Decided to go out in the field today after it rained this morning, to see what I could find. It's still barely January but there were cubes everywhere I looked! They are back in the Lone Star State guys!

I decided to just get a few for now; didn't have time to hunt like I normally do.

Come on down Mike!
Anybody else have any luck in Tx lately? I'm thinking about going back out into the fields later on today to see what I can spot.

Howdy,
I hope this is the appropriate use of this thread. I typically grow but due to a symphony of issues I haven't been in a bit and it'll likely be a little while before I'm up and going again. I'm rather desperate to hit the reset button in the old noodle so I trampled through a cow field S of H town this morning to see what I could find. I found very few considering the distance I covered. Some growing in poo but the vast majority in open areas where cows have been making poopoo for years. kicked over plenty of turds and saw very little mycelium growth. Quite sure no one else hunts there. Not seeing any blue bruising and very little brown spores. But the caps largely look like what I would expect to find(nippley). I'm hoping maybe sunbleached? I certainly don't trust myself to make any sort of judgement call. I'd be ever so grateful for anyone who could take a moment to let me know if these are fit for the trashcan or other use. Thanks so much

Just linking in. I'm new to the search in the wild. I live in Cen Tex close to Austin. I will say for non-actives and possible wood lovers (that I'm tooooo afraid to try lol) that Bastrop and Buescher state parks both have burned a few times in the last 5 years. GREAT amounts of fungi have taken hold!
Off to work

Thanks for your post Hypothetex, that is curtainly the appropriate use of this thread! As for your pics, it's hard to really tell what you have. In my honest opinion, it looks like you have a few different species there.
Maybe another member will come along and be about to give you a positive ID of what all you have there.

the pics are small and the specimens distant so it lacks detail, but it's likely that none are cubes. post better pics of the two or three mushrooms with the dark gills if you want a better idea on those couple.
GL with your hunts and welcome to the shroomery.
