Transferring spent sub outdoors
    #24007741 - 01/13/17 04:39 PM (7 years, 17 days ago)

Just wondering about a few things. I know you probably want a shady spot with plenty of moisture. But is there a preferred type of dirt, I figure I will bury in a very rich area that has a lot of composted leaves, wood, or straw. But what about pine needles? I have pine trees and around them is a lot of needles, are they beneficial or do they affect it negatively? And about the sub, bury it whole/large chunks or crumble it up?

mushrooms require very very little nutrition to form, and themselves are very lacking in nutrition. from a carb(sugar and fiber) protein fat standpoint. so they do fine in lots of shitty soils if you throw the spent sub in there. if you're talking cubes avoid leaves and wood you want grass, straw, potting soil.

I have had a lot of success using straw and manure, covered with shade cloth.
