Contamination or really early mushroom??
    #24006959 - 01/13/17 11:51 AM (7 years, 17 days ago)

Hey everyone, so all my cakes have colonized perfectly except (maybe) one. It colonized faster than all the others (a full week and a half sooner) and started secreting a yellow substance. I assumed it was just myc piss and nothing more but then it turned a brown line. I opened it after I birthed all my other cakes to see if there was anything else- smells like a long mushroom to me. Ive never seen something like it before.  Thanks everyone.

Often a line of metabolites may be seen where the two fungi meet. Hourglass shaped mold sectors in PF jars are almost always the result of a compromised dry vermiculite layer whereas circular mold colonies are usually the result of a mold growing from one of the inoculation points.

You have 2 different molds meeting up.

Personally I'd toss.
