Uneven growth.. when to pick?
    #24006197 - 01/13/17 04:21 AM (7 years, 17 days ago)

Heya,

I've currently got four cakes growing, but could do with some advise as to how to best maintain them.

This is the first flush and only two of the cakes have really developed much..  the other two do appear to be pinning, with a few small grows too, but it looks like they may take quite a while longer to get anywhere.

In the meantime - some of the more developed mushrooms look like they're starting to get past their best and I'm starting to think that they may need to be picked.

The guides I've read seem to suggest that you should pick all growths in one go - even removing the pins, before going for the second flush?

Am I best off just picking *everything* off all four cakes now and starting the second flush off?

If it was me, id have a shower get cleaned up real good and go in and take the ones out which are ready and then wait for the rest. Id keep doing that untill it got to the point where most if not all of them were finished at the same time and then dunk and re-fruit.

That's just my 2p worth anyways
Feel free to wait for someone more experienced tho.

Just pick as they mature. They look extra wet, almost too wet. Maybe mist less.

Pick as they develop.
Many of those look past prime picking time.... Caps fully expanded.
Should shoot to pick when annulus is still attached.

As stated above, these fun guys look too wet.

Ta folks, sage advice..

Will pluck, let a few of the stragglers catch up for a day or two and then flush again.

I take the point about the wetness..  Think my humidity meter is either misfiring for the chamber might be too small to support the cakes.

I'm constantly registering about 80% humidity at a temp of around 20C.. misting twice a day.

I would recommend ditching the RH meter... It's probably what has driven you to overwater.
Instead lean what these little guys need to look like.
They always have a way of showing you when they need water/air.

I don't think it's the size of your SGFC.

Good luck T, keep at it man.

yeah we're not talking about rh in your chamber, we're talking about actual water right on your mushrooms and cakes.
you dont need a meter to spot that, just look at it with your eyes. you see it too right?

Oh yeah, there's no missing it there - tho in fairness, this was minutes after misting,  by the time I get back to them the moistures not so noticeable.

I'll back off on the misting for the second flush and see how they get on.
