I think this food is grossly under estimated. Its fast, cheap, easy to make.. and its delicious! Just take a potato, wash it well, and while its still wet.. wrap in aluminum foil. Stick it in the oven at 400f for about 35 minutes (depends on your potato size) and let cool a bit.. Take it out, unwrap, and lightly butter the skin. Split it down the center, and pour in your choice of toppings.. My current favorite is ranch dressing with chopped shallots.. Mmmhmmm

I like mine prepared the same way, but topped with butter, then chopped BBQ and sauce, then cheddar cheese.
That's a tasty treat.

I usually just nuke them. 35 minutes is too long to wait.

I rub them in olive oil and salt and pepper them before I wrap them. I like the skins.

i'm not huge into baked potatoes..i like stuffed baked potatoes though!
Get a a potatoe, the bigger it is the easier it is...scoop it out, leaving a solid, yet hollow tater, then with the stuff you scooped out, mix with cottage cheese, franks hot sauce, spices, onions, peppers whatever you want, then stuff back into potatoe, top with some grated cheese, and bake....
oh it helps sometimes if you boil the potatoe before scooping it out...boil it for like 5 minutes or whatever, to soften it up

Hello,
When you wrap a potato in aluminium foil you actually steam the potato not bake it. This method seams to be mainly acceted as "baking" a potato, but it is truly not.
I like to coat mine in olive oil add seasonings (salt, pepper, somtimes a little cajun seasoning) then bake on a half-sheet pan at 350* till they are slightly tender to the touch.
Then bring on the chedar, butter, sour cream, real bacon bits, onions, etc.

I don't think you can microwave foil. Metal will mess up your microwave...I think he means the oven when he says 'nuke'. I love chives and sour cream with honey bbq chicken in a baked potato.

Using Aluminium foil in the microwave Aluminium foil containers are safe to be used in the microwave when used as directed. Use a shallow container as microwave energy only enters food from the top, so use shallow trays only. Remove any metal lid or aluminium foil wrap from the aluminium foil container. Make sure the food almost fills the container. Loosely cover the aluminium foil container with microwave-safe plastic wrap, paper towel or wax paper. This prevents splattering and traps steam for faster cooking. Place the aluminium foil container on a microwavable plate or glass dish. Position the aluminium foil container in the centre of the microwave oven - at least one inch from the side walls. The aluminium foil must not touch the sides of the oven, other metal, such as a metal turntable, or another container. To prevent sparking make sure the container is not touching any metallic surface. Cook or heat food ensuring food is cooked properly before serving. Due to the excellent heat conductivity of aluminium, many foods heat more evenly in foil containers, but where appropriate foods should be stirred as usual.
I like to cook potatoes in the microwave but you are right in saying not to wrap it up.

I just poke holes in them and put them on a paper plate before I microwave. I'll try saran wrap next time.
Butter, sour cream, ranch dressing, cheese, bacon, and chives!

Microwaved potatoes are a pale imitation of the real thing. If you want your skin nice and crispy give this simple recipe a try. It may take longer but the results are well worth it! Crispy Baked Potatoes 2 large potatoes, 8-10 oz (225-275 g) each a little olive oil rock or sea salt Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 5, 375?F (190?C) First you need to wash the potatoes and dry them very thoroughly with a cloth, then leave them aside to dry as much as possible. If you're using ready-washed potatoes you need not do this, as the high heat will purify them. Next, prick the skins a few times with a fork, then put a few drops of olive oil over each one and rub it all over the skin. After that, rub in some crushed salt ? this will draw out the moisture from the skin and, together with the oil, provide more crunchiness. Now place the potatoes straight on to the centre shelf of the oven and let them bake for 1 3/4 - 2 hours, or until the skins are really crisp. When you are ready to serve, slit each potato in half lengthways and top with your choice of filling. Serve immediately because, after you remove baked potatoes from the oven, they lose their crispness quickly, so don't let them hang around. Bon appetit!

ok biatches let me tell you the best way to make tasty potatoes.
OK so you get a piece of foil, put your shit on it, light the bottom of the foil, inhale fumes with a straw---errr... wait
OK so you get some nice sized red potatoes. Red potatoes have the best tasting skin, but they tend to be small. So show people how big the taters are and ask how many they can eat to determine how many potatoes you need. anyway you get your grill or smoker going. this is best to do in the summertime when you're barbequeing anyway. thoroughly wash each potato then stab them with a fork a few times. next slather butter over the skins, then sprinkle on season salt, garlic powder, and ground basil. next wrap potatoes in foil then throw in the grill/smoker. if you use charcoal or like wood that's smoldering (not actually flaming up) then put your potatoes directly in those coals. Let cook for at least an hour/hour and half, turning every 15 minutes. once you feel they're done take em out and cut in quarters, brush on melted butter, then put on the grill for a few minutes, really long enough to just get some grill marks for presentation.
while they're still hot top with colby-jack cheese and real bacon bits, sprinkle with a spicy spice, like chile powder (I use this stuff called 'heat wave') and serve with homemade buttermilk ranch.
not a traditional baked potato but good nonetheless and goes great with like smoked country style ribs (if you cook the potatoes in the same grill or smoker as you meats they will taste better) or a big fat juicy steak.
and of course an ice cold beer will go perfectly with everything

i was watching martha stuwart on tv and she was cooking baked taters too but she shove big steel nail through the tater before throwing them in the oven, it cuts cooking time down by 25% cause the heat heats the metal up and it cooks the insides!
