For $50 that's amazing! Where did you get them from?? But generally for most people the hd280/m50 are good enough.

I've got a pair of denon ah-d5000's and audeze lcd-2's and a violectric v100 amp. They're epic

I have the LCD-2.2 and a burson soloist amp.

Heh, that's a pretty sweet rig. To be honest I was a bit disapointed with the LCDs. They do have crystal clear sound -- You hear things in songs that you've never been able to hear before. but I'm definitely a bit of a bass head and listen to mostly electronic tunes, and the bass response of the LCDs was not where I like it to be without turning the volume up significantly where the highs become a bit sharp. I EQd it a bit to adjust it but still, would prefer not to have to tweak the sound. They're perfect for anything without a heavy bass focus though. They're perfect for orchestral/post rock type of stuff. Also they are pretty heavy and not that comfortable to wear for long periods of time. And are difficult to power requiring powerful amps, not portable either.

Where as the denons are epic. Great sound, very deep and powerful sub bass, portable, even sound good off of an ipod un-amped! They look and feel great. Just all round a great pair of headphones. And I managed to get then for literally half the price of the LCDs!

I generally prefer closed back headphones. I've got my eye on the LCD-X and fostex th-900/th-600, but they're way too unreasonably priced. I'm hoping for a big price drop at some stage lol

The lcd need a lot of power. How much does your amp put out?

I have my brothers fostex th-900, I don't think I would buy them. He bought the new sony mdr-z1r. I haven't had a chance to listen to them much yet.

Up to 2.2watts so there's plenty of power. It's definitely not as nice as a burson amp though.

What do you think of the th900s??

The fostex th900/th600 are apparently the denon ahd5000/ahd7000 but rebranded with a way higher price tag. I've listened to the fostexs and they do sound a bit better, but just the price is sooo off the mark that it's not anywhere near worth purchasing. Even at half the price I'd still be hesitant

Haven't heard of the mdr-z1r. Googled them briefly and they do look nice. It's good to see more high end closed back options entering the market. Generally the high end stuff is mostly open back. But fostex, audeze and Sony are dreaming if they think they are worth their 2k+++ price tags. They are soo overpriced.

I paid 500 for my d5000s in 2012 and while that is alot, it's literally unbeatable value. For pretty much a top of the line closed back headphone of its calibre that price is unheard of. The new fostex rebrands are easily double or triple that, and only marginally better in terms of sound quality.

High end audio is a trap. That's why I was saying before its better to just get a decent set of Ath-m50s, maybe beyers, and just be happy with that and save the extra coin

They have a lot more detail than the LCDs. But they are missing the "punch" of the LCD.I don't think I would buy them, but I can use my brother's pair indefinitely.

Sony mdr-z1r

I've owned dozens of >$100 headphones and earbuds by all the companies. They all fall apart after a year! Just invested in a a pair of Shure SE-535s, they sound amazing but I will have to keep replacing the cord. Just scored a Sennheiser HD-7 for $90 refurb. They should last 5-10 years.

I have Denon AH-D2000 and Sennheiser HD-650 (closed and open respectively). I run them both through an Objective 2 headphone amp. I like them both for different reasons. Probably no pair of headphones will ever do everything perfectly.

I have the AH-D5000s and the O2 amp setup as well.  It's fantastic.  I don't like the Sennheiser sound, personally.  Nice choices ont he phones though!  You obviously did some research.

I wish I could've got the 7000s. They were all sold out by the time I got onto 'em unfortunately

I had a friend with beats. He used to sit in school blasting annoying electronic music and making weird noises along to the very audible music.

Damn that shit was annoying. I had another friend with one of the super fancy/ expensive pairs of beats. People were always "borrowing" them without asking

Oh how I love me the Denon line up 2000/5000/7000. Such a sad day when they stopped making them!

Fostex is making virtually the identical headphones though with real hardwood cups--quite handsome headphones. Something to consider for those that missed out on the opportunity to buy the Denons (that is if you can stomach the price).
