Have you ever gone through the sugar withdrawal process?

I take a whole cheat month from my diet in December. I normally don't eat anything high on the glycemic index on the primal diet. When it comes time to wean myself off sugar the first 3 days of absolutely no sugar or grains is just miserable. It ever ceases to amaze me how strong the addiction for sugar, fructose and glucose in general is. It definitely takes it's toll mentally and effects your brain chemistry.
Headaches Body aches Fatigue Mood swings Depression Cravings Super irritable Strange dreams Bad sleep cycles
When it's over it's all worth it.

The first week I'll limit myself to 1 sugar item or bread item a day. Like either a snickers before bed or a bun on my burger. It's better to wean yourself off rather than go cold turkey in my experience. That is a tough week.
Then after that the first 3 days are a nightmare. Headache the whole time and all those symptoms I listed. It takes a lot of snacking material. I use pistachios, shrimp cocktail trays and veggies. Your brain will tell you that you are still hungry because your body is used to burning glucose for energy. Once you switch it over to burning fat for energy it is amazing how much weight you lose and how great you feel. Much more natural testosterone and hgh is produced. Less insulin.

You need some carbs or sugar and it's dangerous to abstain. Did you get an acetone breath? Ketones can build up in your blood and poison you.
Why completely cut carbs? I can understand not eating a 600 calorie donut.

I wonder if that's why I've had headaches the past month.

It's a hunter-gatherer diet. I get carbs from vegetables and nuts. Read The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson.
