Silene Capensis Infected
    #24004979 - 01/12/17 05:55 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I have had the worst indoor growing season ever. My salvias were infected and nearly killed and now all of my Silene Capensis plants are infected with something else. I have too many of these plants and I am afraid that most will have to go outside. I will try to save maybe 4 plants out of 40. I have too many to spray.

What are these bugs?  They are all over the leaves and several plants are already dead. I will try and harvest the roots tomorrow.

Sorry, at first i thought aphids, but they look like little white spiders idk.

Ether way, ladybugs would love to eat those up.. that is best solution....

coincidentally today at work there were 1000s of ladybugs everywhere.

spraying won;t do much good by the way it sounds get some ladybugs.

Unfortunately most ladybugs are hibernating right now but if I find any (I had one fly onto my arm yesterday) I will try and put them on the plants There seem to be white bugs and some fat green ones. Some of the white ones seem to be dead on the web. The white ones seem long and thin and not the spider bug shape.

I was planning on taking a few plants outside and spraying them with neem oil solution.  I have never had insect troubles like this before.

you could buy some online
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1500-Premium-Fresh-Live-Ladybugs-Harvested-twice-weekly-Fresh-Bugs-Free-Shipping-/271751744265?hash=item3f45aa8b09:g:YrQAAOSw3ydVujQn

Yep they sound like aphids, also i forgot to mention,
when my speciosa trees got aphids i cut off the branches they were living on on,
made sure none escaped to other leaves, and then,
i was able to wash the aphids and eggs off cuttings in the sink and many rooted.

Thank you for the link. I think I will move most of these plants out into the garage tomorrow. I will harvest the dead ones (the roots) and maybe spray 4 of the ones in the big pots and see how they do inside.

I do have a lot of the original seed stock and also a lot of seeds that i harvested this year, so maybe I can start again. I have had so much trouble with bugs this year. My mugworts, salvia and now these plants have suffered. The silene seemed to need a few cold snaps to start the seeds germinating.

LOL today I found a ladybug in my bedroom but it's been many months since I introduced them to keep my plants healthy.. I'm amazed it has been able to survive all this time, especially considering how lackluster the ladybugs tend to behave when I see them, apparently.

I see wild ones here. They tend to hibernate around the window frames and under the house at this time of year.  I am not sure if I want them running all over the house though.

I will try that. Goodness how these things got in the house. It looks like I have green aphids and white scorpion shaped things.

I have found that silene froth taken over a few days produces very vivid dreams. It is one of my favorites
