Transparent mycelium on agar
    #24003297 - 01/12/17 07:36 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Hey folks..Just a quick question about a bunch of plates that I transferred, some MS, some clones. All are throwing clear myc. The temps have dropped in the incubation room from 78-80 F down to 68-72 with this cold.

My question is: Barring bacterial issues, which I could have, but lets say I don't for now...Can cold cause this? It feels like the myc is like "fuck this, warm me up... I can't do that right now."

I may post pics. Starting to fall down a bit of a rabbit hole of non understanding. Thank you.

Here's my experience with transparent mycelial growth.

This which I thought was mycelium. Turned into this:

Your mileage may vary.

Looks like some bacteria riding with the mycelium

I've run the plates that these came from...All the grain worked out fine up to G2, would have gone to G3, and fruiting has been 'normal'. Thus is why I don't think its bacterial...

Kenetic...you think this is normal then? I transferred from the leading edge as usual, which was pretty transparent.  I've seen myc transforming a lot and a lot of zonate type which I was told was a temp thing.

Every single plate Ive ever had has had a leading edge that was clear.  Itll turn white soon.

It could likely be the nutrient profile of the agar itself that is causing the mycelium to show that kind of growth. Try to tweak your recipe a bit next time

I think that could be a good call... The plates in question were transferred from plates in the fridge...

Here's 2 photos of transfers taken a day apart. One is from cold storage and MS, one is a clone, never in cold storage.  Both on the same medium. I did change the agar recipe slightly from the stuff in cold storage by reducing the malt extract content. Made everything else go more rhizo...
