Some jars stalled, some are far
    #24004754 - 01/12/17 04:47 PM (7 years, 18 days ago)

This is a bit of an update. I left for a few days and when I came back I noticed some jars haven't really changed, while a couple have been doing really well. I lost one jar due to contamination and separated it a little over a week ago. I believe the one I lost was just due to not being careful during inoculation. The other 7 show no sign of contam. I had used a type of duct tape to coverify the holes during steaming and I did not remove it after inoculation. I do have a dry verm layer. After seeing a few of them stalled I poked a hole through the tape on each noc point on the jars using I nail I burned for each hole. I have also moved the jars onto a shel away from furnace vents. I will post another update on this thread in a few days if or when I notice they are no longer stalled.

pint size pf jars are prone to stalling. thats why halfs are recommended.

you could honestly remove the tape all together if you want. you used a dry layer after all.

Those are half pint jars. They are just the tall ones. If I removed the tape all together, the holes would be the same size and I would have to disturb the jars more to do that.

the talls are not recommended for the same reasons the pints aren't

I agree completely. The short half pint jars are difficult to find though. I had plenty lying around so that's why I used them.

I've got quart jars and although they're doing fine, I should've done a half inch hole and shot LI in all directions. I went straight down but I dunno what's really going on.

I apologize for opening this thread from 4 days ago, however, every jar has improved. There is at least 10% more growth in each jar. It appears as if GE is helping the jars that couldn't breathe, which is what you guys have suggested. You guys rule
