Bicycle Day, Tripping on the Steps of Parliament House and My Imminent Arrest.

Hello All,
I am an Australian mystic who uses shrooms, LSD, peyote and ayahuasca as part of my religious practice. I've also been an active drug law reform campaigner for more than three years.
As part of this, I have completed a 28 day hunger strike and taken LSD on the steps of the Victorian Parliament House on three occasions. I have been entirely ignored by the both the parliament and police, which is strange, because surely if I am breaking the law and am a danger to the community, I should be arrested and put away?
Of course, I am not a danger to the community. My arguments are backed by decades of peer reviewed research. Politicians I speak to know the laws that prohibit my use of Transcendent Compounds are a clear breach of the basic human right to freedom of religious practice. They are simply too cowardly to change things.
With the notable exception of an interview with John Safran and Father Bob and an episode of ABC radio’s “Encounter” program dedicated to the issue, I have been entirely ignored by the media. This is a shame, because LSD and “Tripping on the Steps of Parliament House” would make for a good story.
Bicycle Day is coming up shortly, on Saturday April 19th and once again, I will be tripping on the steps of the Victorian Parliament House. This will mark the fourth time that I have done so. As with previous occasions, I have notified all members of parliament and the media of what I intend to do.
This time is a little bit different. Instead of writing long letters laying out my arguments, I'm preceding the event by sending out short daily emails with an LSD related video or research article, with a short commentary. In doing this, I hope to generate both interest and engagement.
There is another key difference: I intend to get arrested on the day.
Yes, that is correct. It is my intent to force this issue, by getting arrested and dragging the Victorian Government through the Supreme Court (and High Court on appeal if necessary). Once arrested, I will request a referral to the Victorian Supreme Court under Section 33 of the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act (2006). There I will seek to obtain a Declaration of inconsistent interpretation on the grounds that the Victorian Government lacks the “demonstrably justifiable” reason required under Section 7 of the Charter, for a prohibition on the religious use of Transcendent Compounds.
I know that some people will be horrified that I've decided to take things to this level. If nothing else, it is a great risk, especially as I don't really have the funds for a High Court challenge and nobody can be 100% certain of the outcome of any legal action.
But in reality, what exactly do we have to lose? How can the Victorian Supreme Court make things any worse for us than they already are?
For years, I have been telling people that the Human Rights law in Victoria (and the Australian Capital Territory) are as good as we are ever going to get. Anyone who believes that Australian politicians are going to change drug law voluntarily simply haven't been talking to politicians. The only way that we are going to earn our freedoms is by launching a Roe vs Wade style legal challenge and by forcing the Government to acknowledge that its prohibitions are based on ignorance and bigotry, rather than justice and science.
I'm tired of being run by fear and allowing myself to be confined in the straight jacket of others bigotry. We all know that the science regarding LSD (and the other Transcendent Compounds) is unambiguously clear: LSD is non-addictive, non-toxic and psychologically safe in an appropriate dose, set and setting.
With the exception of a few dubious research papers from the 1960s and 1970s, the Victorian Government simply has no way to justify a prohibition on the spiritual use of LSD and other TCs. They know it, I know it and fairly much everyone here knows it. And once I've been through the Victorian Supreme Court, everyone else will know it.
If I didn't truly believe these compounds to be safe, I wouldn't have begun my campaign three years ago and sacrificed so much along the way. If, like me, you believe that using LSD and other Transcendent Compounds is not only safe, but also is something that should be allowed and even encouraged, I'd hope that you will support me in what should be an interesting and potentially world changing journey.
I'm not wanting anyone else to also trip publicly on the day. One sacrificial lamb is enough.
But, if you are going to be in Melbourne on Easter Saturday, I would love you to join me on the Steps of The Victorian Parliament House at Midday, when I take the plunge. It should be a great day to come and show solidarity and raise awareness in the broader community.
If, like most people, you don't happen to live in Australia, let alone Melbourne, and don't have a spare $3000 to come and make the trip (literally), I'd encourage you to spread the word and let others know what is happening Down Under.
If I am successful, the result will be game changing. A successful challenge under Australian law would give great impetus to followup challenges in the US and Europe, both of which have robust religious freedom laws.
While my case won't address the prohibitions on recreational use, success will highlight the fact that Transcendent Compounds are far safer than the monopoly drug (alcohol) and greatly weaken the case for prohibitions on recreational use.
Bye for now,
Greg Kasarik Herder of Cats

Sounds pretty ballsy but very informed and a just, peaceful tact. Good luck I'll tell some people in the capitol of America for you. I would love another revolution such as this where I'm from but legalizing weed maybe a first step. I have always wanted to move to aus though I know you need a reference so as long as your not in jail if u need a partner in justice I'm there Good luck

Thanks dpomalia.
Oz is a wonderful place to live and many of us were born overseas.
If I am successful over here, people like you will have a wide open door to walk through, even with your Supreme Court's current make up. My entire argument relies on science and that is something that anyone can argue anywhere.
It all depends on whether basic rights and the rule of law are respected. I'm fortunate indeed, to be able to live in a country where silliness like mine simply gets ignored, rather than one in which I'm dragged off and tortured.

I guess nothing happened then. At least Australia isn't North Korea. That's my new motto. A bunch of cunts from India and Iran would kill to live in Australia. Do you know that in Iran they cut off your hand if you're caught stealing? http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/oct/24/iran-thief-hand-cut-off
Australia is a goddamn paradise. I agree, the way it is heading is a slow way toward fascism, but goddamn, look at the rest of the world!

Just a quick update - Greg did trip on the steps and has continued to do so, more or less as a lone campaigner.
This year on Bicycle Day he was arrested for possession of LSD and he is seeking to fight the charges in court. From what I understand of the legal challenge so far, he is probably not going to be able to fight the charge in the manner he wants to. It will be rather expensive, the charges are light and I don't think the judge will care to allow him to have it heard in a higher court - which is where it needs to go if the challenge is to be taken seriously.
Here's a link to the most recent conversation he had on Enpsychedelia - Melbourne radio show covering drug policy, harm reduction and broader drug issues.

He's started a church now. Go listen to that podcast or at least follow the links on the podcast page. It's quite the story.

Yeah, Greg got himself arrested. He's had one court date and it's been adjourned to January 10th.
