AZURES!

SO here is a couple of questions that I need people with experience to answer because so far I have heard all sorts of random crap...
When making Outdoor Azure beds (six mm Beech woodchips plus 10 percent spawn) I have heard that they benefit from having six inch deep beds as opposed to a foot... I was thinking i could put up like 20 6x6x18 inch patches lol (anybody have an idea of how much one of those patches might yield?)
And, I have heard that with Azures they may not need a casing layer and that too thick a casing layer can be troublesome as the mycelium doesn't get enough air... I was thinking 3cm potting soil?
Also when it comes to repelling slugs and keeping pesky dogs from running through it what actions are the best to take?
Also if there is anybody who has done azures in southern england before tell me how your experience was and what you felt like you wish you did when you had finished it. Or if there is any vital advice that somebody like myself could benefit from, I am read up on what to be doing, but at the end of the day everybody has different ways of doing things and i want to know what works
This is my first attempt, although by spring i will have a SHITLOAD of Spawn and i promise if everything works out I will take some piccies in november
Bless

Diatomatious eath may work to deep the slugs out. I would like to try an out door bed one day. Keep posting your trials.

Just accept the fact slugs and bugs and deer and shit will get your patch. No sense getting mad about it and not much you can do so just keep making it bigger and bigger.

As far as slugs go grab yourself a 30 pack of beer leave cans around the patch with beer in em. Takes care of the slugs on my plants every spring
