Khat from cutting or seed?
    #24003471 - 01/12/17 09:15 AM (7 years, 18 days ago)

I had a few rooted cuttings but the roommate managed to kill them while I was away.

Do khat seeds germinate easily or should I just get some more cuttings?

Thank you

It depends on the age of the seed.

The last few years, the majority of the seed has come from excellent suppliers, especially one out of Africa. The seed on the market is a lot younger than it once was, and I've found germination to be relatively easy. Seedlings are slow. Another benefit of the seeds on the market is that they show remarkable variation compared to what used to be available in the US.

That said, cuttings are faster. If you have access to both, I would go with both.

In general, a desert plant, which seeds prolifically, is going to have offspring, with different amounts of dormancy chemicals.

I know how this is supposed to work, in a cartoon sort-of way. You have dirt, water, sun, and it's supposed to be a tree, in five minutes.

Actually, some of these things will come up, years later, depending on how dormancy is broken.

And, if you were to have lots of seeds, you plant them, in different ways.
