Monotubs in bathroom
    #24002613 - 01/11/17 10:34 PM (7 years, 19 days ago)

Looking for feed back on putting monotubs on a rack on top of my bathtub. I have out grown my two chambers in closet and above bathtub is only available space left in house. I have 20 cakes about to be birthed, maybe half in casing trays and other half cakes. If I could keep a sterile environment could my 3 or 4 monotubs get enough FAE or would the bathtub create a swampy Co2 sink? I  might put a HEPA filter or fan in bathtub to circulate air. Could this be advantageous to have a little micro climate or detrimental and what the science is to support your opinion? One more question. Is it necessary to have holes on top of monotub? I put a glass panel on mine so I have ease of access and can see the babies. Just holes on sides and bottom with poly seal and 5" of perlite. One more question. Would it be more efficient to put up plastic around bathtub and create a green house? I'm just starting my brf jar tek so I am more interested in what I am doing wrong as opposed to "this is how you do it". To be honest I love this site but my first post a few days ago was basically this same question and my responses were very non constructive. (See bathtub tub) thank you pretty butterflies.

Follow a monotub tek, stop trying to re-invent the wheel.
It's easier than you think, just stop overthinking it.

Get tub, drill holes in appropriate locations, cover with tape.
Place substrate and colonized spawn in tub, mix it up at 2.5" sub depth, put lid on tub.
Keep the tub near a window or where there is ambient light hitting it.

After 7-10 days, stuff holes with poly, tight on bottom/loose on top (or use micropore tape, refer to Pasty's tek), and wait for those pins. Keep surface from drying out. See how easy it is..

What you're describing is a shotgun fruiting chamber, not a monotub. For that to work properly you'd want holes in all 6 sides. You also want about a foot of clearance on each side, even the bottom. I don't see a problem with fruiting in a bathroom as long as there's air circulating in it and plenty of daylight.

Thanks for the clarification, I missed that, thought it was only about monos

OP I'd spawn those cakes to a few mini monos instead, less hassle/better output, just my humble opinion

Do you have to cover for the 7-10 days with the lid on? Or can you just put it directly into fruiting by immediately putting into a dub tub set up (for example).
