6 to 12 year old prints, and new to agar. Possible rejuvination?

OK, short story long...
I left all of my sentimental genetics in my buddy's freezer over 6 years ago after I moved. He still has them in his freezer. I've heard stories of prints being viable for 10 plus years.
Is this a pipe dream?
Also, I have been looking into agar for rejuvenation and isolation for grain transfer. The archives are leading me in different directions on this.
My grows back when were all MS to WBS quarts to Hpoo/verm. Now I am reading that MS to grain is a stupid method. What is the most common agar method for cubes ATM? I have looked in to several and can't make up my mind which to use?
Thanks and it is so great to be back again, this forum is effing amazing.

I like agar to LC to Oats. It just seems safe to me. However I have done MS to WBS and agar wedge to PF Blocks with success. All about eliminating variables. Spores to agar is the best way to make sure you have clean shit, regardless of what medium you use for spawn.
As for the old prints. Try em on agar and find out. Do a couple transfers if it germinates.

Btw this is a 4 year old spore syringe I inherited from my friend when he introduced me to mycology. It was never refriderated and it actually turned yellow. I'm on my second agar transfer now with what looks to be clean myc.

So as I should have, I read further into agar.
As I type the PC is running a double batch of Pasty's easy agar. I am picking up all of my spores tomorrow and I am stoked.
When I grew last, any agar work sounded like a flow hood was a must. The mono tub was mind blowing and productive.
I love that every time I take some time off there are new innovative/easier ways of doing things.
This go around the SAB is something I wish I learned about ages ago. I wish I knew about easy agar and an SAB when I had the space to do the bulk grows I used to have, my failures would have been smaller and my wins well, who knows.
Thanks Shroomery and all who contribute.

Information I could have used 12 years ago Cron. Respect to you though.
I always dried them, then into the freezer. Not sure where I found it but I thought that was legit storage. Never had a problem with getting results from them, hence my initial question. Are these spores viable after 6 plus years in a freezer?

They could be...only one way to find out play the numbers though...lots of spores lots of plates. I did 27 plates with four prints that were ten years old...two plates got growth after a couple weeks

Only one way to find out. Im workimg on some that are older. Still no luck but they look good in the microscope so im still trying to revive them. Hears some 16 year old cambos.

Did you have luck in the past with frozen prints? From what i understand its water that brakes the spores open. Freezing them dry you may have some viable ones.

I always stored prints in the freezer. They were never placed in the freezer fresh.
Fingers crossed on these old spores.
