Spore print art

Ive always had a creative imagination, but have never considered myself an artist. Now that I'm older, I seem to appreciate art more and have started messing around with stuff i like in "artistic" ways. For example, I love wood and in the last 1-2 years have dabbled with chainsaw and hand tool sculpturing as well as making raw edge redwood burl slab tables and ditching my ikea "shit". Most recently, I decided to incorporate my love of mycology and my love of psychedelic art. I love sacred geometry and would like to incorporate that with spore prints on an undecided medium. Spore prints are beautiful and a completely organic aesthetic in their raw form which is intriguing. So far, I have just been messing around with printing different types of sporocarps with a variety of colored spores. Ive gotten mixed results and feel like there are methods to get the spores to deposit in a variety of ways. I really like when they form perfect prints leaving detail of the gills but then start to blend and flow like smoke in a portion. It really looks like a transition between a perfect print and smoke or water blended perfectly. Hard to explain, but so cool and really unique. I like the idea of making a piece containing millions of spores. Im thinking about my next project and want to print psychoactive mushrooms like amanita muscaria on colored paper( A. muscaria has a white spore print). Also think printing deadly mushrooms would add a cool element. Amanita phalloides has a white spore print and would look really cool on black paper. Even thinking about layering spore prints to make a rainbow print! That will take some more thought though, because spore prints are finite and are prone to blowing away. Anybody else have any experience messing with spore prints for purposes other than identification, microscopy, and cultivation?

I used to laminate (or just use clear packaging tape) to make spore print bookmarks.

Cool! Ive been having success with arranging the prints in a visually pleasing way, and then coating with a gnarly mineral spirit varnish. The next step is layering and re-applying. I'll update with a picture soon.
