Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Think I finally need help.

Hello! New grower here. My brother in law has been growing for about 8 months, gave hubby and I some shrooms to try and since then we knew we wanted to grow, too. So we took the plunge. Everything was going great. Had GT growing in 1/2 pint jars with brf. Two of our jars were ready to fruit in 3 weeks, had knots and pins galore in the jars. After about a week we had nice shrooms growing and veils had broke so we harvested, dunked and put back to fruit. Next day 4 more of our jars were ready so we dunked and added to the chamber. One of the jars on the first flush has new pins but they look weird. Super dry looking, white spots on them. Not getting a good vibe from the new ones. On top of that all of our cakes are bruising. Ugh. A little backstory. We followed my brother in laws instructions to the T. I found this message board after we had put our first two jars into fruiting and read all day every day for the last two weeks. Boom. We are not doing this right. BIL is not doing this right. - he told us rolling after dunking isn't necessary, so we werent. - our fruiting chamber started as just an airtight tub. Woah, way wrong. - he said an hour of light a day is good. That's what we gave them. - he said no need to mist, just fan them a little bit. That's what we did.
After reading I made some changes. -we made a SGFC. At this point we had some good looking mushies, within the first 24 hours of being in the new chamber they took off like crazy. HUGE difference. - they are on a 12/12 light schedule with a 5500k light about a foot and a half above them -mist/fan when the cakes look dry, was reading fanning may not be necessary with a sgfc? -will be rolling cakes after dunking from now on.
I just want to be a good cultivator, and have accepted I will face a lot of failure along the way. Curious as to what's up with these pins? One of the cakes on their second flush has normal looking pins, will include a picture.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated so I can delve further into this hobby.
Normal looking
Why so dry

How long did you dunk those cakes for? They look really bruised up, try not to handle them soo much. Make sure you mist those soon, the mycelium doesn't look happy

Not bad, just keep up that misting/fanning schedule. I'd crumble your cakes to a mini mono next time, I'm sure you'll be a lot more happy with the results

Next time we're doing mono for sure! I've read so many guides on it I feel mildly prepared haha. Also want to get into agar but that's a little more daunting to me. Thank you for the advice!

Thats a bunch of rubbish. Cakes are best fruited as cakes always and forever. Crumbling them to coir increases the chances for contams and provides no noticable difference for yields. Also even riskier considering OP is usong spore syringes and not live cultures for the pf cakes.

I'm no cake baker but those are super dry...hence the bruising. The fruit are coming from the areas still covered in verm where the humidity is better...after you harvest what's there, you might dunk and re-roll. You also might look into bottom-watering...ComebackKid has a thread on it.

I was just reading last night why rolling is important and felt like a total moron. Pin growth makes sense now. I'll get right on the bottom watering today, found the guide. Thank you!
