Crush or Chip for Planting
    #24001530 - 01/11/17 03:22 PM (7 years, 19 days ago)

I'm on Vancouver Island and am trying to source any/all of the following products in 20 litre pail size quantities.  Gardening shops have been useless in this search to this point.

- granite, <3/8 chip
- limestone, <3/8 chip
- dolomite, <3/8 chip

Essentially, any mineral substrate, other than sandstone, that is suitable for rock loving cacti.  If you know someone, who knows someone ...  I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe try an aggregate/landscape supply place?

I know people that actually scavenge at quarries. You won't be able to find this stuff at garden stores, so get creative. Granite will probably be easiest to find, feed shops carry it because it aids the digestion of poultry. Though I'm not sure how many chickens there are on vancouver island.. Maybe try going to the marketplace?

yeah man chicken grit #2 is good stuff that you can get from tack and feed stores
you can ask for a "sample" from a landscape supply place, if you're ready for a half-ton of screenings
I'm about to do an experiment with some "non-clumping" kitty litter

I am lucky to have a friend who does granite counter tops. So I have it all. Good stuff and limestone is easy to come by here. Goodluck
