Off the top, does anyone know a professional-grade and reliable vendor for microscopes?

When i was psychotic i whole heartedly believed all i needed was a microscope, a koran, and a leaf and i would instantly know how to build an airplane
But to answer your question...no i do not

I have a decent one, but it's sort of a macroscope.
I would like to examine cross sections of plants.

The Pub, probably not the best place to get budget pro microscope advice? Who knows, someone will now come along and prove me wrong....let us hope...
I have one that's about 90 bucks and works fine for me. Not professional grade though.

I bought an amscope off ebay a couple years ago. An affordable and surprisingly decent microscope.

The digital camera add-on is a pos. Id recommend just getting the basic package and buying the camera separately. You can buy a much better cam on the side for less money.

Hmm well after a quick look, it seems the newer models are kinda different. Theres a usb eye-piece insert that functions as the camera. The model I have has a separate camera dock on the top of the microscope which is great for exchanging and using whatever camera you want to. The eye-piece thing is much cheaper with the package (obviously), but I doubt youre able to change out for better cameras. Something to think about I guess..

Alright yah i saw the tri lens type two lens for your eyes then a vertical one coming out the top. Looks like the most universal for microscope cameras.

You can get surprisingly good pictures by holding a decent (i)phone camera up to the eyepiece, so you don't technically need one, but if you have the cash it's probably a lot more convenient.

oh, good to know.
I do have an old film SLR with a macro lens. I bet that would work well. I think my digital camera has macro too.

I saw the Amscope models too. From what I understand the cameras only have so much resolution and cannot focus at 1000x. Regardless, I did look at the Amscope and it seems to be a early school model, I think. Regardless, the camera and zoom is makes it attractive. Being able to report findings with a camera would allow one to make more accurate data , which could be shared with other people for even more accuracy.
Oh, how nice it would be to grab up a Zeiss with a high def camera? It's like a double whammy... super microscope and super camera.
I may look trying the Amscope. How was your experience Walrus? Did you take any pictures?

I cant find any of the pics right now (on my other phone), but yeah they get the point across. The kit usually includes 4x, 10x, 40x, and 100x objectives. Most everything is shown in great clarity at 10x (with the 10x eye pieces). 40x is intense and 100x isnt even necessary, not to mention it requires some skill to resolve images at that magnification.
This was taken with my phone with the 10x objective (cube spores). Blood cells are shown just as clearly. Its actually kinda creepy looking at your own blood cells. I prepared a plate with a swab I took from a small puddle near my water heater. I nearly puked.
