Ok, I would just like to state a little about the way in which I use DMT and how I apply it to a self-development/self-discovery practice. I hear so often in the psychedelic community - "use the plant/drug right, man." But I rarely hear about methods in which they should be used outside of the basic "set and setting." For a long time I was part of tht crowd, but I didn't really know what it meant to go in with an intention and bring something out of it to integrate. To be honest, I've never heard of people using psychedelics in the way I'm about to describe, not saying tht it isn't done, just that I don't hear about it much.
I've been inspired by folks like Ram Dass in the way that he began using psychedelics as a crossover to a spiritual way of being. Also by McKenna, Watts, Etc.
So ever since I got into psychedelics I've dreamt of being able to be in a setting where I could use them consistantly in a practice or ritualistic way. Last summer was the closest I've come to this so far. I was extraction DMT and had more than I Would ever need available. And in the 40-60 experiences I had in a single summer, I still feel like a novice is the world of journeying.
One thing that repeatedly comes to me during and after my DMT experiences is that it can be used as some type of technology. There's no doubt. You can go into these spaces and bring something back. It is a tool for spiritual discovery. And although, psychedelics alone will not do all the work. I firmly stand by the idea that they are a valuable tool. It took a while, but I eventually stumbled on my favorite ritual and way to use DMT functionally. The first time I discovered my love for yoga, I was on acid and just started stretching and fell in love with the feeling, with my body. And many times after that, I would end up instinctively doing yoga and pranayama (breath work) when I was under the influence. These practices are a natural part of our being - we've just fallen away from spiritual practice.
Anyways after so many times wanting to do yoga and breath work when loaded, I started going into trips with myintention on those things. I had probably 30 experiences tht followed this procedure:
-Load 30mg of DMT -Vaporize in 2-3 hits as best I could -Immediately step onto my yoga mat. -Spend 2 minutes or so absorbing the come up and visualizing my energy flow. -spend the remaining 8-10 minutes noodling out postures and breath work tht my body needed. -spend the next 45mins after the comedown practicing on the areas where my energy wasn't flowing.
So essentially I used DMT mostly as an intention setter for Asana practice. Trust me, it doesn't always go smoothly as that either. Sometimes I would end up singing and dancing around, chanting, or just getting flat out weird with my body (but don't worry about that haha), or I would push a little too far and end up tranced - it's a thin line haha
Anyways, after my first 10-15 times with DMT I felt initiated enough where I wasn't swept away every time the vibrations began. 30mg became my "functional mid range dose" - where I could get fairly strong effects but still manage to keep myself attentive on the practice.
You become incredibly aware of your energy levels when you in tht space, so it is perfect for observing the body and seeing what needs to be worked on, and having studied yoga in India, it became easier and easier to synchronize certain practices with my results from the trip at the beginning of my sessions. This makes a lot of sense to me based on all the the classical medicinal and healing usage of ayahuasca in the world.
My Friends, these experiences are not something to try out and never touch again. DMT is like going to church. (I'm not a religious person, but I hope that paints a picture). If you want to have a relationship with God/earth/universe/etc, you don't go to church one time and call it good.... It's a work in progress, a practice. You smoke DMT, and DMT smokes you and it's a beautiful thing and then you go back and it reveales a little more of itself to you and so on. Anyways, lets expand on this. How do you "use" drugs on your path?
Peace
