The glad mini rounds burn out fast.. but.. it's easier to pop lids off after a few uses. I will use new ones for different projects and use old ones when I know it'll pop off easy in my SAB so there's less movement in there. The knockoff pint pp5s will warp over time and essentially become useless, since they only lock a particular way after so many spins. The glad ware pints are better. I get maybe 2 or 3 uses out of the knockoffs before their lids just turn to shit. You don't want to be fighting anything in an SAB and the pint knockoffs are good for making that a possibility.

Ok I'm doing my third batch and I'm feeling good about it.

Few things that I am doing diff then the last 2 times are

Letting dish cool and set up before I put the lids on to cut condensation.
After cooled wipe down any splash or residue from walls with alcohol cloth
Made a double batch and made it stretch for 19 dishes so each dish has just a lil less. I over filled them last time.

I think I've got this cat skinned now.:stoned:

It was suggested by a poster (sorry I can't remember which one) that the hole could be drilled through the side and eliminate the need for the foil and towel. I have tried it and it does work. The tape gets quite wet and must be allowed to dry but it does work fairly well. I do miss not having the towel to write on and it's hard to not touch the tape sometimes so care should be exercised when handling. This would be a good option for those who don't want to use the foil.

Hmm, I like it.  It looks like you used two layers of mp tape, is that because you plan on keeping the plate around awhile or does that have something to do with the hole being on the side?

Would you foresee any issues doing this and using the plate for Munch's blenderless LI?  I can't think of any potential issues but figured I'd ask someone who may have already done it.

Thanx again for single handedly increasing clorox's stock value with this tek.  (Clorox owns Glad)

I usually use 2 layers now. I just stick a new one on overtop after each cycle as well. I got some older plates with like 6 layers lol.

In pint pp5's, why even bother modding the lid? There's plenty of clean air in there already. Just loosen it a little when it's wrapped in foil and tighten when removing from PC. Minirounds for blender less LI or tiger drop sure but if you're just germinating spores or need one quick I don't see any point whatsoever in doing anything to the big guys.

I left this maybe 2 month old plate of a stem tissue clone and totally forgot...

I saw it again and it hasnt completed the entire plate yet. the culture seems pretty clean...  could the agar just be too nutritious? whats the next course of action? is this worth pursuing? thanks...

After a few cycles the lids get looser. When that happens they are easily pulled down by the forming vacuum and the container is crushed. Longer you use them, easier it is too happen.

To overcome the vacuum issue you can create a poor seal with objects placed on the sealing area. e.g. I had a strip of thick foil, from takeaway containers, placed over the lip of a large PP5 container I have. This means it cannot seal itself off so will not collapse. After it is heat treated you pull the strip out carefully.

Some lids have quite complex snap on features and the foil could possibly tear when being pulled out. I now usually use plastic string/wire from ear plugs, which pulls out easy.

I also have SHIPs on many containers and simply insert an old syringe needle into it, I have loads of old needles. I have done this on autoclave bags too, I make my SHIP on the filter itself as it seems to stick best there. This allows me to seal bags before cooking with no fear of expansion

Yeah I'm sure those work fine but it's way more effort than I personally am willing to invest. If I was only gonna make 4 at a time then perhaps.

I kinda assumed you guys made big batches of plates, I know I did  so far all visably contam free, which assume is good, just the other night I found a cyan on my dog walk, came home made a print and took a clone, nice and easy to set the sab up grab a plate and rock... I love refining workflow

What's the consistency supposed to be? It started drying on me while I was trying to spoon it and I only got 3.5 out of it.

The way to ensure you have the right amount of liquid is... if the recipe calls for half a cup, to mix it all up and before you start spooning it into the plates, get a measurement cup and pour the whole mixture in... and if it comes out less than half a cup, then you know you need to add some water cause some boiled off.

This is correct. Having trouble with the ratio for my particular brand of agar. My pasty plates are done now though. I just harvested my fruits and took some tissue samples. Not feeling too good about it- cut my finger making holes for my still air box- and didn't feel very comfortable inside it. First time so I can only improve.

Are the ge holes even that important with plates?

No pour plates they are. Otherwise the pc will crush them

SAB work didnt feel comfy for me either at first. kinda like trying to unhook a bra while making out. but you'll get better. just play around in it. pour some mock dishes or whatever.

and just as long as your sab looks better then mine you'll be fine. mine hasnt failed me yet.
