Absinthe

So is the Absinthe legal in the USA worth buying or is it garbage? From my understanding they filter out the thujone in it which made it illegal originally so I'm wondering if anyone who has tried the legal 'thujone free' absinthe can tell me if it's still similar enough to the real deal to be worth buying. I've read that it doesn't make much of a difference with or without it but I'm hoping to get some more reliable first hand opinions on it.

It's completely worthless.
Way better to make your own or order it overseas, but getting illegal liquids through customs is risky for your dollar
No ones gonna kick your door down over absinthe, but don't waste your money on absente or whatever it is at the liquor store.

Can you PM me a legitimate site to order from? The sites I've found have a lot of people claiming to have been scammed when I googled them.

I ordered Absinthe from over seas.. Several times with no issues through customs.
There are several sites out there.. The one I used is now closed.
But yes you are right - the stuff sold in the US is very low on thujone content.
The stuff I got had a good amount of thujone in it, and it created a unique buzz (more lucid and social). Don't expect to hallucinate or see green fairies or anything though. Its effect has been hyped up over the ages. Don't get me wrong, it has a 'unique' buzz, and I enjoyed the preparation/flavor. But if you are expecting to trip balls, I would look elsewhere.

Haha I appreciate the info. I guess I'm not surprised it's effects have been hyped up. Maybe I will just wait until the opportunity to try it presents itself, in the mean time whiskey will do.

No sources bud, sorry.
Since it's legal in many many places, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

You can get legit stuff in the US. You can mailorder it too. I have a bottle of this that I bought on the internet, http://www.drinkupny.com/Duplais-Swiss-Absinthe-Verte-p/s0684.htm
I have ordered from that company before.
Don't expect much more than licorice flavored alcohol though. I'm actually not that big of a fan of the taste. I just have it once in a while.

The US brewed absinthe is garbage.

It's a waste of money, and a terrible drink.
I have drank some legit stuff before that did give different than alcohol effects, but like I said, I wasn't at baseline when I did, and I also drank it at a festival so god knows what was in it.

Never tried it. The bottle I linked to is from Switzerland. Waste of money is a judgement call. Its a pricey bottle, you can certainly get alcohol for cheaper. But many fine drinks are pricey.

I only meant it's a waste of money if it goes through customs and they take it. I have never ordered liquid through customs. A friend used to and never had an issue, but that was 9 years ago.
I don't disregard true absinthe. I like it for what it is, but it is a very different drink to digest.
I don't think it's a waste of money to get legit stuff, just the crap at the liquor store here.
And even though it was brewed in switzerland, doesn't mean it wasn't brewed FOR america. There's laws dictating how much thujone can be in the drink.
Some beers are the same way.

I order my absinthe from Germany(sorry, no sources) and usually order 3 at a time as the shipping is $45 or so. Waiting on a shipment now actually. A good bottle( Jade, Duplais, Libertine, etc.) is something to be cherished! I've come to love the stuff. Absinthe is'nt overhyped, btw, it's misrepresented. It can most definitely be a visionary experience, or be catalytic toward one's creative surges, but it's a subtle gnosis that's distilled by the cunning few and overcast by the crass desires ov the many. To be honest, i've mostly replaced my beloved piper with the green fairy in praxis(they do blend together supremely though).
Is absinthe worth it? It's better to ask if you are worth it!
