Reading while baked 1

Does anyone else find it IMPOSSIBLE to read while high on the ganja? I was so excited to delve back into "Ham on Rye" and "The Proud Highway" but within 30 seconds I learned that just wasn't going to work

Yeah you think it would be great getting into a book while stoned.
But I too have the same problem.

Yeah this came up in another thread but I didn't want to derail too much. I used to read books quite a lot, and when I started getting stoned all the time I kept reading quite a bit. Eventually though I realized that a lot of the time I was just scanning the words with my eyes without really processing them. These days I have very little attention span for books even if I don't smoke weed. Internet use may have a lot to do with it too. I read quite a bit online but never anything very long.

Use SQ3R for book work, scientific literature, web articles, class notes, and the like. When you are using SQ3R, make sure you are translating your book into formatted notes. I use Roman Numerals, letters, and numbers. The video below gives you the basic idea.
You should be reading every single assignment, having the chapter notes organized and understood before class. You must be prepared in order to have active discussion in your class. SQ3R helps you prepare for this by using recitation.
In my undergrad (psych) we learned that repetition is essential to learning. Study your notes at least 6 times before class. Sleep is essential to memory. Literature also shows that taking notes by hand improves learning, as opposed to taking notes by computer -- although sometimes speed is necessary.
One last thing. Go to every class.

Well too much can distract, yeah, but i like a few hits prior. Ideally with absinthe or a cigar. I guess that it depends upon the book as well. It's always good to cater one's physical and psychic environment to a particular book.
I had a few hits before working on Anna Kavan's Ice today. I've been reading it slowly while sitting in my smoking/work vehicle, the cold temps and snow outside most appropriate for the character ov a book called ice. Had a Eiroa 20 series in toro to tobacco the back o' the tongue.

While attending college I read and studied high... I couldn't imagine reading a textbook without some good herb lol...but I have been a seasoned smoker for over a decade and I do remember when maintaining concentration while reading high was difficult. Either practice or tolerance relieved that problem lol

It's really hard to get into but I've went on vacations where there's not much else to do and spaced out into a good book

I can read while stoned, it's not impossible but it's difficult. I have to go over every page twice to remember and take in what I read.
Kava also slows down my reading, but in a different way than weed. My memory still works fine but my brain goes slower.
Kratom and smaller amounts of alcohol and I can read like I'm sober. Benzos in the dose I am prescribed also doesn't hinder my reading ability.

Yeah. I couldnt read for shit when i smoked weed. Was just talking about it in another thread. My mind would wander and i would get bored really fast. Couldn't visualize much
quit smoking weed last year, And started reading alot. Read 44 books last year, 27,000 pages according to my goodreads profile
I never would have admitted it while i was smoking, but weed made me fuckin stupid. Glad i quit.

Depends on my tolerance and what I'm smoking out of. I could also say it depends on dosage as well but not always.

I love to read while baking, its not difficult either and sometimes the info sticks a bit better since I usually end up rereading it.

I'm so glad this thread was made I seriously thought I was alone with this problem. I can do it, but if I'm really high it can be difficult keeping my attention on what I'm reading and might scan an entire paragraph with out comprending any of it which leaves me all

For me it's so strange because like some people are saying if I read stoned I can either get SUPER into it and visualize and conceptualize everything much better or it can put me in a state where I am scanning the words but my brain isn't thinking about it or processing the information so it's almost a waste of time because my mind is somewhere else and no longer focussed on the story.
It varies so much for me but like I said tolerance can play a huge role. I even feel like sometimes my reading skills are hindered by the first initial waves of the high whereas on the comedown I will actually experience an enhancement in my ability to read.
Oh and P.S. for me reading on dabs is so much easier than reading after smoked flower. The dabs feel more clearheaded and my mind feels more 'stimulated' however smoked flower can actually make it sometimes easier to visualize what's going on in the story and I can easily become more entranced by it.
Never tried reading extensively on edibles, wonder what that would be like. It doesn't seem ideal to me though.

nah, if i'm high i read the same.
i might laugh more if i'm high, or get a greater reaction out of something that makes me feelsman, but i don't think it's ever effected my reading comprehension. i tend to dictate my reading (i'd say with academia, from my experience, it'd help as well), but when i'm reading to myself, i try to hear the words in my head, and i read at that pace, sometimes i'll just mouth the words (brain processes that the same way as if you're dictating; i feel it helps me concentrate, and not skim anything).

I just end up reading slower, but at the same time I seem to enjoy reading about the Emperor's good work and being more immersed in his blessings while stoned.
