Ok, when checking for moisture beads or "dew"..in a monotub/shoebox,is it ok to shine a phone flashlight on the surface?

If there is no moisture glistening. Mist?.

The reason I ask is everyone says monotubs and even shoeboxes are somewhat set and forget..an occasional mist...

However I find they need daily misting to get back that glisten on the surface...whats yall take on this?

By adding more micropore?...Im in a humid state, the problem is I'm in a small bedroom with a window A.C...how much fae restriction is proper..or can better results be gained from misting daily and letting it evaporate daily?..

You can do both.

AC usually drys the air quite a bit.

Misting daily is fine. I'm lazy and would add another (or 2) layer(s) of tape until it's dialed in and you only have to mist every few days (if at all after achieving proper surface conditions).

Checking in with these images to see how things are looking/doing. First-time grower. I read posts here for weeks before I attempted my first grow.

Welcome to the Shroomery.

It kinda struck me how dry all your surfaces look, especially considering in which thread you chose to post em.

But hey, you got fruits so congrats for that and be wary of the rabbit hole

Thank you for your insight. This is why I choose to post in this forum. I will go take another peek at them and mist.

Seeking some wisdom on surface conditions for 2 shoeboxes and a mono I have going...

The first shoebox is done using SFF Tek (under field capacity sub with soaked casing layer). It's doing well... pins on Day 12 and this picture is from today (Day 14). However, for the past week or so, I've been misting daily to keep some moisture on the surface. Despite the shoebox being latched all this time, the surface was drying out rather quickly and continues to do so. There is always condensation on the walls of the shoebox and I've got a few sidepins. Now that the pinset is developing, should I continue to mist to keep water beaded on the surface? The Tek says to unlatch the box once the fruits are 24-48 hours from being fully mature so I guess it is staying latched for now (though I've read that FAE is necessary for healthy development).

My second shoebox was done with field capacity sub with a field capacity casing. Looks quite different with almost a "web" of mycelium on the surface. Just starting to pin on Day 14. Same issues with the surface drying out rather quickly. I've also been misting this daily. A few pins have a yellow color to them instead of the brown color the pin caps usually are... not sure if this is indicative of anything.

Finally, my first bulk grow which is progressing beautifully  This is 2:1 with a casing and I did well to keep the surface conditions nice during colonization. However, how that the pinset is in, should I continue misting so there is moisture on the surface, or just leave it alone? I noticed a small cluster of side pins today.

Thank you!

Just thought I’d post some pics to show this thread is spot on.  Most of these have a 1ā€ compressed top layer.. a couple maybe a 1/2ā€
