How is this looking to ya'll?  5 days after spawning.  Its manure with diatomaceous earth, brown rice grain spawn.  No vermiculite.  Holes are taped up.

How do I know if my chamber needs more mist?  It has been 2 weeks and I have seen no pin coming out of the surface? Is it too dry?

Looks dry. Mist it till you get nice beads of moisture on your surface. I see a lot of knots so your headed in the right direction

Do I mist by spraying on the wall of the box of mist directly on the surface?

Which way is safe for preventing contamination?

Mist higher, above the surface, and let the water fall down onto the sub in a fine mist.

You want the whole top layer to get an even coating of water droplets

After creating some mist by mist maker, I think this sub is little too wet, isn't it?  Do you think if it may have chance to grow?

That’s basically what you want it to look like, now when that drys up a bit, mist it again. But from the pic you look good for a while, you just don’t want puddles and stuff.

Be patient. By the looks of it* youbshould see pins in about 2-3 days. Bulk sub will create its own surface humidity. Misting is not needed as much.

Looks great. Wait until day 9/10 before introducing FAE. That way you don’t put into fruiting early and impatiently wait for pins like most people do out of impatience.

If you have water beading up on your sub stop misting for a few days and let it evap. If you’re using monotub tek or are fruiting trays via monotub you need not mist. Only if your sub is drying out. The walls don’t  need to be wet for the RH in a monotub to be in the right range.

If you are new, spend the $15 on an electric thermometer/hygrometer by zoo med. I️t will tell you everything you need to know. As long as the RH in your fruiting chamber is 85% or greater your substrate will keep its own microclimate.

Thank you all for the advice. I guess what i'm going to do next is to be patient.

Some spots of the substrate turn in light dark blue. Is it contaminated?

No. That is most likely bruising from too much moisture. Just let your mycelium do it’s thing. If anything let ur tub breathe more the next few days until you see less moisture. Fix now so yield is not affected.

This is another box of substrate. It came up few pins but as I see the box is little bit dry. I cant see any bead of water on the surface.

What do you think about this?

Low flush with long skinny fruits and high abort rate would tell me too much humidity/wet mycelium. Could I️t have just gotten a bit dry, recently triggering pinning? RH in a monotub need only be 80-85% to trigger pinning. The substrate will keep about 95% RH in its own microclimate. The fruits don’t look bad. Looks like a few of those lil guys will abort though. First flush?

That mycelium also looks like I️t was searching for air for a bit, which goes hand in hand with too high of RH levels. Is your polyfill loose enough? Do you remember the inside of that tub ever being soaked from evaporation?

Just took a closer look. Overall your bulk sub is in good condition for how much it’s been starving. Drill some large holes in that tub and fill with polyfill. You need more FAE. Shotgun fruiting chamber will not work as a monotub effectively. The small holes should be fine. Drill 6, 4” holes on the sides and fill with polyfill. I️t can be found at any fish store as filter material. This will solve your moisture issues whether too wet or too dry.
